Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/ Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

They’ll give you a vesting schedule, which may or may not be linear, but for the sake of argument and round numbers let’s assume it is. Let’s also round the stock price. $30k / ~$210 is ~143 shares / 4 years is ~36 shares per year.
So every year, you’ll be given 36 shares. If the value of the shares goes up between now and when you get your shares, you’ll be getting more than $30k. That’s one of the main advantages of RSUs: you get exposure to the share price upside before you’ve even earned the shares. (You also have exposure to the downside, so it can also be a risk.)
When you receive your share distribution, you’ll owe regular income taxes on however much they’re worth at that time. Most people immediately sell enough shares to cover the tax bill. Then you can do whatever you like with the rest.
Details vary (schedules are often not linear, some companies vesting is quarterly rather than annual, etc) but that’s basically it.
Thanks for this. This is the exact answer I needed. My question was more about the vesting schedule not whether the comp was good or not :). I’m well aware of the market.
Must be a junior role, IC2 - 3. 30K divided by 16 vests every 3 months. Total # of shares is determined as average stock price the month before you join (e.g, $30K / $200 = 150 shares and you would get about 9 to 10 shares every 3 months)
OP mentioned he’s a total newbie and it’s sad to see people belittling his offer. 96k is absolutely amazing for someone new to the industry! The snobbery around salary in consulting is IMO pretty despicable. Stop pushing others down and start building them up!
@A2 OP clarified this is a pay cut. People on this thread aren’t being unreasonable. Additionally, we are building others up by telling them they deserve more and encouraging them not to settle.
Why would you take it the salary is so low
1) depends on the role Op interviewed for and level. If it’s an IC3 non tech role then comp offered makes sense
2) total equity given in offer vests 25% every year. Each year you’re also granted more equity based on performance and that also vests at 25% a year. So as you can see, comp quickly stacks the longer you work here
If you want 400k+ roles like the rest of us, you need to be an software engineer or come in as a manager/tech lead with significant domain experience for what you were hired for. These companies don’t hand out high comp packages for analyst that make PowerPoint decks and perform IT audits….
Meta would have to pay like 200% to work them. Zuck is pure evil
My comment on the NSA is in response to your china phobia
Are they lowballing right now? This is paltry
Seniors at EY are making 100k+ right now…
OP can you edit your post with the job role? Definitely going to confuse a lot of fishes otherwise w the numbers
Salary is too low gotta negotiate for 6 figures! Nothing less than 125k base!
Please don’t accept this offer! Negotiate for more!
As a reference point, I was hired L3 with 103k + 15% bonus + 66k in RSUs over 4 yrs + 10k sign on for 2.5 YOE
APMM in S&O. It’s an entry level rotational program
Salary is low, if you have been at D for two years minimum I’d expect is $135k or in that range
In short, a higher base for OP seems reasonable
Would this be a raise for you?
OUCH!! I mean that’s brutal with the price of everything going up.
What’s the position?

I’d take it just cause it’s Meta!
How many YOE and for what role?
This role likely requires 0 YOE.

Looks good to me.
