Just lateralled as a mid level to a biglaw arbitration practice - the team is busy but 2 weeks in most of my work is nonbillable BD related work like helping the partner with RFPs and upcoming webinars. Just wondering whether this is normal as a new lateral and if as a mid level I should expect to get involved with more BD as a general thing even as actual work ramps up. To be clear there are BD managers and practice managers I work with on the pitches so I'm not doing every single thing.

Also curious

It can take a while to ramp up. Keep asking if there’s anything else you can do or if you can hop onto a matter.

Any engineers specifically electrical engineers? I'm trying to get more experience with electrical equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters and microcontrollers and things like that. Besides, you know YouTube and other online resources. Does anyone know any resources to try or places to go? That have labs for public use or to pay for? I graduated from school last year so I can use the equipment anymore.

For ID attorneys - can someone explain the perks for being a partner in ID? At my firm they barely bill above a junior associate. It makes me somewhat sad because I know these partners are very intelligent and their time is obviously worth more than what they the amount they bill.

Salary check - I am a first year associate in NYC. I work at a mid-sized regional law firm and work in defense. Our billable hour requirement is 2200…salary is $85,000 with a $1000 quarterly bonus if you meet your billables. Is this normal / should I start looking elsewhere? Ive worked here for about 7 months and really enjoy the people I work with. But I feel like I’m not getting transferable experience.
For reference, I went to a tier 3 law school and was an average law school student.

I am so burned out. I’m autistic, and there is so much that I just don’t know is a thing that I then get yelled at for not knowing is a thing. Partners tell me that I’ve got a rep as the go to person in my group for the difficult issues no one else can figure out. But then I get yelled at for being hyper technical or forgetting to enter time or literally everything, and it just feels like I can’t do anything right. I’m heartbroken I might not be cut out for this. It’s all I’ve ever want to be.

I live in FL and my AC has an internal leak, landlord refuses to replace it anytime soon. Electric bills are now $300 for an apartment. He isn't doing anything about his aside from coming to the unit to see the issue himself. What type of recourse can I get this is insane.

I was recently talking to an adjuster who advised to start getting into cyber security litigation. He said the attorneys they work with can basically name their price and have to sometimes negotiate directly with hackers because they write for it and is a covered loss. Does anybody have any experience with this or advice on specific CLEs/literature, or otherwise to obtain a competency? (I know, I know, Google it, right?).

In need of some advice here. About to be a 4th year and at firm no. 4. I've jumped around in order to get out of an area of law I hated. Now in an area of law I love, but the firm does not appear to have enough work for me to meet my billables. I constantly ask for work and I just don't have a steady flow of work to allow me to meet billables. It's been this way for a few months ever since I started. Should I jump again after I hit my one year? I hate the jumping but I also hate not having work

Feeling underwater since around October, and decided to finally bring it up to my boss—now a senior associate is questioning exactly how busy I am, and seems rather interested in my workload and how it’s handled. ?s started when told to temporarily stop sending new projects my way. this sr. associate generally does not get too involved (never online), doesn’t pay too much attention, little to no feedback. No substantive projects. This reaction comes off as hostile. How to handle?
