Just looking for advice: I'm coming out of a corporate level accounting position, looking to go into an accounting support role. I'm at the point of winding down in my career but would like to work for another 8-10 years in a less stressful role with no management responsibilities.
I've had multiple interviews and thought several of them went well based on my past experience as the interviewer, however no offer letters. Does anyone have advice on how to make this transition?

I’ve done that in the past. There is a certain degree of risk you take. The optics and questions you will face is “why did you go from Sr. Management roles to a junior role”. Reviewers will often pass up the application without giving it a second glance. Interpretations of the work history is presumed and not always favourable.

Most often to transition to a supporting type role will be an organization that is short staffed, have a project going or need temporary help. This would mean contracts.

In some cases you can go from a short term to a long term term contract if you work well with the organization.

The best case scenarios are to find project work. New systems implementation, GL refresh / remapping projects, etc. In those scenarios parallel and / or transitional accounting is required. Staff is needed to keep the books running while others are doing transitional work.

Although you move to a supporting role, beware, there may be times when you might just end up back in the senior role (not by choice).

What do you wish design students would learn in school to ease the transition into needs of business? I have seen an increasing need for more education/inclusion/overlap into other areas of business that depend on design teams so they understand what goes into the process. As well as design teams into the other business teams. This would alleviate tensions and improve quality product delivery due to the major miscommunications that occur so frequently.

Thanks!
