Just lost another case. Three in a row this year so far. Looking for some encouragement from the community (especially since I'm the only person of color at my firm).

We (black people) often feel like we need to be high value 24/7 because that’s what we think is needed to be at the same level as our white counterparts. There’s a saying “we must work twice as hard to be half as good” while I don’t agree with any of this. I am susceptible to this often because I mean I’m human lol.

Nobody has it all together. Who cares if you lost 16 cases in a row. I will tell you a secret, You won’t
lose 17. You will pick up the pieces and keep on keeping on. Nothing lasts forever.

This too shall pass.

Thank you, thank you so much!

Sometimes its out of our control. Happens to us all. Is there anything you can learn from the experience?

I think there was a glitch in the system, I didn't write that but appreciate the advice

I understand what you're going through. As a POC myself, I also tend to set a higher standard for myself because I always feel like I have to prove something to my colleagues. As long as you keep on learning, it's not a total loss.

I have totally been there. It is so easy to get into a rut and a really negative mindpace. Keep your head up and keep putting everything you have into it. It pays off.

I have recruiters that are sending our premium rates out to candidates. This was never allowed at previous employers. Has this practice changed over the past year? We always held those rates close to the vest. I have even had a recruiter ask for the 401(k) vesting schedule and matching plan. This is not public information and should not be provided to candidates. Am I missing something?

Anyone else have to deal with a rude legal assistant? Been working with a legal assistant for over a year, and to say she’s rude and difficult is an understatement. She’s quick to tell me if she can’t do an assigned task,my files are a disorganized mess, and she sends snarky email responses. I talked to the managing partner who agrees her behavior is problematic. He’s suggested the three of us schedule a meeting to discuss, but that feels too formal. I’d rather ask for a reassignment. Help!

Hi, everyone! I’ve been licensed since Feb 2020. My first job was with the State & I stayed there like 1.5 years before leaving (I gained many skills). I know my biggest mistake was leaving without having something lined up. So BASICALLY I’ve been unemployed since Jan 2021. I was employed by two firms but it didn’t work. I guess I didn’t meet their “expectations”—they expected me to learn everything within a week. ATP, I’m just getting VERY discouraged. Having interviews with no response etc.
