I have recruiters that are sending our premium rates out to candidates. This was never allowed at previous employers. Has this practice changed over the past year? We always held those rates close to the vest. I have even had a recruiter ask for the 401(k) vesting schedule and matching plan. This is not public information and should not be provided to candidates. Am I missing something?

Anyone else have to deal with a rude legal assistant? Been working with a legal assistant for over a year, and to say she’s rude and difficult is an understatement. She’s quick to tell me if she can’t do an assigned task,my files are a disorganized mess, and she sends snarky email responses. I talked to the managing partner who agrees her behavior is problematic. He’s suggested the three of us schedule a meeting to discuss, but that feels too formal. I’d rather ask for a reassignment. Help!
This bowl was originally created for black attorneys in big law, but since it’s the only bowl for black attorneys, many black attorneys in other sectors have joined. Some people are apprehensive about starting another bowl for all black attorneys because it will take away from this bowl. Assuming that the conversations & topics will stay the same, What are you thoughts on keeping this bowl solely for black in big law verses Opening this bowl to any black lawyer?
Are there any M&A attorneys in here looking to go in-house & would be open to relocating to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area? The role is with the largest privately held company in the US! If so, please DM me. Thanks!
I try to set boundaries at work, even as an associate. I’m always available and usually hit billables with decent reviews. Do you get pushback from seniors or MPs for setting work boundaries? What are the responses you’ve received?
Two more weeks until the new year. Is anyone else struggling to finish the year off strong?
Oh to be Giselle and Brady's divorce lawyer....how do you fumble (pun intended) so badly that your brazilian international supermodel wife leaves you? You don't see Russell fumbling Ciara that's all I'm saying.
I’m going for a small/boutique firm to big law and had a question about support staff. How often do you use support staff (i.e scheduling appointments and time keeping). Also do you guys have an assistant assign only to you or is the assistant for multiple attorneys
For people that are afraid to get help with your mental health or addiction because you think that you will have problems with bar discipline, 1.why do you believe that? 2. If you could have an honest conversation about this topic, what would you ask?
Other than losing out on the bonus, what else happens if you don’t meet your billable target for a year)? A number of associates at my firm miss their target and it doesn’t appear to be an issue.
Are you all talking to recruiters? What are they saying about the market, signing bonuses, etc.?
First-year at a big law firm and I feel like i’m getting passed on good work opportunities that end up going to other first year associates. Is this the norm? I reach out for work but other non-minorities end up with the work. What do I do?
Would you ever open your own practice?
It’s Friday 🙌🏾 Any big Labor Day plans?
I’m currently in accounting and I am thinking of applying to law school. The catch is that I’m 35 and wondering should I be making this move at my age? Any feed back from u guys helps
Hi, everyone! I’ve been licensed since Feb 2020. My first job was with the State & I stayed there like 1.5 years before leaving (I gained many skills). I know my biggest mistake was leaving without having something lined up. So BASICALLY I’ve been unemployed since Jan 2021. I was employed by two firms but it didn’t work. I guess I didn’t meet their “expectations”—they expected me to learn everything within a week. ATP, I’m just getting VERY discouraged. Having interviews with no response etc.

We (black people) often feel like we need to be high value 24/7 because that’s what we think is needed to be at the same level as our white counterparts. There’s a saying “we must work twice as hard to be half as good” while I don’t agree with any of this. I am susceptible to this often because I mean I’m human lol.
Nobody has it all together. Who cares if you lost 16 cases in a row. I will tell you a secret, You won’t
lose 17. You will pick up the pieces and keep on keeping on. Nothing lasts forever.
This too shall pass.
Thank you, thank you so much!
Sometimes its out of our control. Happens to us all. Is there anything you can learn from the experience?
I think there was a glitch in the system, I didn't write that but appreciate the advice
I understand what you're going through. As a POC myself, I also tend to set a higher standard for myself because I always feel like I have to prove something to my colleagues. As long as you keep on learning, it's not a total loss.
I have totally been there. It is so easy to get into a rut and a really negative mindpace. Keep your head up and keep putting everything you have into it. It pays off.
