I think wine machine is pretty much the right term, just never seen a wine vending machine before. Treasure the encounter. Met two billionaires in my career so far and I vividly remember both of them for their simple normalcy. Very eye opening. Lots of assholes out there far less successful than these two guys I met.

I've met dozens of billionaires through my family business (we're not billionaires, we just sell things to them). In my experience there's really only two types of billionaires. 1) There's the billionaires that consider themselves royalty and expect be pampered. We'll normally only meet them and speak to them once or twice, and deal with their "people" for the rest of the time we work with them. 2) And then there's the bill gates type of billionaire that is confident in their success so they don't feel the need to prove anything. Genuinely nice people who love to tell stories about their past and explain what the companies they started sell. These people normally have a relationship with my business instead of having their "people" handle it. In my experience the "nice" billionaires outnumber the "entitled" ones 60/40

I was trying to figure out the wine machine, couldn't and sat down. He walked over and ask if I figured out how to use it... I stared like, "wait a minute....."

So Bill Gates helped you w a wine machine? First, what is a wine machine and secondly, that sounds fantastic.

Wait, bill gates drinks wine from a wine machine at a Marriott? Never thought of him as my hero before, but I like this guy!

Wine machine is probably the wrong name- it's a machine on the wall with bottles of wine and glasses. You scan your room key and it pours for you. I couldn't figure it out, he thought I did. When he asked I went with him to try to figure it out again, but when I ran to get an associate they said the machine was broken 😭

I don't suppose you asked him for a job?

Because of my hire date last year I wasn’t reviewed in last summer’s annual review cycle. My firm cut everyone’s salary by 25% in March and made major layoffs and more are coming. The firm made it clear that during this summer’s review they will not discuss salary. Any advice for how to have the conversation in the near future about a raise? I work exclusively with nonprofits and my current salary is not sustainable. Are consulting firms that deal with for profits also suffering like this?
