Just met with a career / life coach and she quoted me $10k for 6 months. Does this sound reasonable? Any thoughts /insights into coaching in general? Have you tried it and did it work?

I have a career coach but I talk to her strictly about how to achieve work related goals and accountability/motivation. Women in the legal profession are her specialty. I pay her $500 for approximately four 30 min sessions as needed. I usually only check in with her 1or 2 times per month as she gives me action items to implement which take time. She also responds to emails in between the sessions. I have been working with her for about a year and a half. I also have a licensed psychologist to help with emotional/life issues. I pay her $250 for 1 hour of therapy every 2 weeks. You can do the math but 10K seems like way too much.

Things went well. She helped me advocate better for myself, identify certain skills I needed, and eventually realize I needed a new job. I found one along with a promotion. I'm not seeing her anymore, but I think it was worth it during the phase of my career that I was in. I may seek out career coaching again at some point.

What is she coaching you on? Is she a licensed therapist? Sounds scammy to me. And expensive.

like

If you want to make it work, then lets find a way to do that.

That seems *extremely* expensive. I guess it depends on what your goals are, but I wouldn’t lock into some kind of 6-month contract unless I knew the person could definitely help.

There was a six-month period where I went to a therapist every week and had to pay 100% out of pocket. I didn’t come close to spending $10k.

like

That's what I thought. Thanks all. I won't go through with it and find a therapist.

like

definitely start with a therapist it’s like a $40 copay and you can try many different ones until you find one you like!

10k for six months? That's as much as a top trust and estates lawyer can take to design a complicated estate...that seems way more valuable use of your 10k.

Reach out to me. My advice: follow your heart ❤️

Get a therapist and a personal trainer. You’ll see massive dividends over some “lifecoach”

Idk who the coach was, but as a coach myself and invesring in coaching myself, you have to tune into how you felt on the call with this coach and decide for yourself! There are a lot of coaches out there and there is no standard rate, its based on the value you receive from the support. Did this coach demonstrate how she works, take ypu through an experienxe so you could feel a shift on the call?!?! If she didnt just talk in theory but took ypu through an experience you can much better judge if its right for you! Also, there is a difference between therapy and coaching...therapy in my experience is great when you are teying to get back to maintaining an area of your life and coaching is when you want to up-level your current life and take action towards the future vs healing the past. They are both valuable and they have different intentions, from what you shared about what your wanting to work on coaching is a great route. With respect to your marriage depending on what your looking for, a marriage and family therapist could support but there are many coaches who focus on this as well! I wish you the best of luck finding the right support for you, tune into what feels right for you!

Did you get it through your firm? Big laws thesedays have affiliated therapists where you can try out some free sessions. I’d start from there

Highly recommend the coaching through your firm. Free and confidential, so talking about your future and next career moves with them is totally on the table.

I know several people who have done something similar. 10k sounds about right, but I’d research the coach to make sure this isn’t a scam.

Mannn if you don’t look at some YouTube videos. That sounds like scam likely 😂

what videos?

Does anyone know the most important factors that go into your overall market value? I’ve noticed basically every offer i got or recruiter that reached out was in the same range. Currently at $200, most roles across diff industries that reach out seem to be $250-$275. I assume that’s my value in this market, but what determines that and how does one raise it?

I assume current comp is a big one, level, skills, location, maybe prestige of credentials? Anything else? Curious what goes into this.

I am coming up on a promotion. In preparation, I've done some market-level research for the future position and found the average salary is approximately $30k more than my current salary. I've been with the company for 10 years in various positions, but 2.5 in my current. My previous supervisor would never entertain any negotiations above the offer letter; stating "the offer is final". I've spoken with other colleagues and its not true.

Any advice for negotiations, and how much is too much?

Went through all Tiktok rounds (1 recruiter, 3 PM, and 1 HR). Wrapped up my final interview with HR 2 weeks ago and they said that they would have an update by the end of the week, but to reach out to the recruiter the following Monday if I didn’t get an update.
I followed up last Monday and the recruiter told me they’re still interested, but they’re awaiting further guidance from the hiring team. Didn’t hear from her again, so I followed up yesterday and no reply. Any feedback about this?

Is this correct? Thanks!
