Just opened a Roth IRA with fidelity for the first time. Do I need to do anything special to contribute 6000 towards 2019s limit? Or do I just put in 6000 and it’ll know that I’m putting that towards 2019? Not sure if that’s a dumb question.

Nope - just transfer the money from your bank account to the Roth IRA using the Fidelity option up top to “TRANSFER”. As you click through, you should see a radio button pop up for 2019 and another for 2020 to let you choose.

like

Nope. Once it's in the IRA you can buy sell trade etc. whenever you want to.

like

It will ask you which year you are making the contribution for. Choose 2019

like

But for this year the deadline is 7/15, same as the fed tax deadline

like

Wait... you can just transfer the money all at once? It doesn’t have to come out of each paycheck and eventually add up? Oh man - I need some assistance.

This is a Roth IRA, not a 401k

Fidelity is on our restricted list. Did you check tracking and trading first?

OP means Fidelity as a retirement provider. Fidelity is also a private company so you can’t buy stock.

Thoughts on CAIA? Difficulty, hours studied, study tips, overall experiences, etc.? I’ll be sitting for Level 1 in September. Currently work in the fund of funds space - moving over to my firm’s hedge fund research team soon so CAIA seemed like a perfect way to get knowledge in the area beforehand. I’m almost one year out of undergrad (econ background) so a lot of the CAIA content is new to me

I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.
