Nothing comes close to watches, but I have a buttload of nice shoes/boots, and I also own way too much outdoor/sports gear, but those are typically one-time purchases (mountain bike, road bike, snowboard, etc..).
If I’m honest, at one point in the past, I got obsessed with merino wool clothing. I seriously have like a hundred articles from Icebreaker and Smartwool. Luckily it’s amazing and most gets worn frequently and has held up well. Lol, I just looked down and realized I’m wearing a merino t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, socks, and underwear. 🐑
As with watches, there's always a more expensive option out there!
Competitive shooting (IDPA). I’m more of a shooter than a collector, but I do find something satisfying about the mechanical operation of a handgun that’s similar to the satisfaction of mechanical watches.
I’m a Glock guy for the most part (akin to Seiko); at some point I’ll probably end up with a custom 1911 (probably Alchemy Custom).
I’m not a shooter. I don’t even own a gun. But your story reminds me of a time when I went to the range with a friend who claimed he could shoot well and then proceeds to miss the target from ~10 yards. It was hilarious if not disconcerting. To this day I have no idea what he was aiming at or how he could miss so badly.
I did hit the target consistently (I’m sure my groupings were terrible) so I win =]

Oh — forgot cameras and lenses. Once upon a time I spent a lot of cash on photography gear.

Golf. I belong to a club and am very into it so I treat it as a fixed cost rather than disposable income though
Same. Something horrific would need to happen in order for me to quit my club
Travel and jewelry for my wife. I do use points for a lot of travel but have been to NZ, Bora Bora, Greece, Switzerland, and Hawaii in the past 2 years.
Chess and sim racing. I probably have $15-20K in fake race car gear. My wife has repeatedly told me no on getting a real race car. The only thing left really is getting a hexapod from motion systems.
I’m sure getting a Miata would be more fun and potentially even less expensive but I’m not willing to fight the battle with the wife on that.
Hexapod for reference (~$30K I’d guess after taxes and import fees):
To clarify for those who don’t know the Miata is the poor mans race car and has huge support in low budget racing. There are leagues and events built around racing miatas.

Golf; recently got into sports memorabilia after inheriting some old cards. Can get pricey.

Guitars. They are cheaper and deliver sooooooo much more satisfaction. Watches are pretty, though.
Me too! Planning to work my way up and get some more classic pieces soon
