Just out of curiosity - what sort of events/mishaps, with airlines or hotels, actually trigger you to ask for points as compensation?

That's my philosophy as well, @PwC1. The concept of asking for additional points because of inconveniences was foreign to me before fishbowl. Was just curious how other people rationalize this idea and what their thresholds are.

I was put on standby and they skipped over my name and never called me. It was pretty hectic and chaotic as there was a storm. Delta gave me 20k points and personally called to apologize. (I was delayed an extra 4 hours)

I've never asked for points but probably should have the couple times I've had to drive 7+ hours home due to multiple cancelations. I guess this is the whole "cheaters never win" false argument, all of you dummys sound like whiny toddlers asking for points for the slightest inconvenience and us rational people are left standing pockets empty because it's not something that would cross our minds. You don't deserve to be compensated for a slight inconvenience, that sounds like a miserable way to go about your life in my opinion.

I feel that all these points and stuff are additional perks to our pay.. so I usually don't go aggressive about it and that has made my life way better... some of my colleagues are so into these that I have seen them go crazy about shifting hotels every night to make status, etc.. just enjoy the life.. :) we are all anyways in top 3% pay bracket of this country :)

I've never explicitly asked for points, but got a bunch from American because they canceled flights Thursday and Friday. I had to drive on Friday to get home instead... cancellations weren't weather-related. So I emailed with my disappointment. They have points as a sorry. Other than that, never.

Shower was lukewarm

I got 5000 miles once because they didn't have a blanket for me. I didn't even ask for anything (other than the blanket). The flight attendant insisted on giving me the points.

I always write in when the IFE isn't working. I've always received some miles as a goodwill gesture.

I once received 5000 miles for broken IFE on a 6am LGA-ORD where I was sleeping anyway. I also received only 4000 for broken IFE on NRT-DFW. Not sure how they came up with those

Totally legit to expect compensation if a business didn't meet their own service standards. Obviously there is a grey area to use/abuse if that is your thing...

Plugged in an iron at a Westin and the iron started spewing rust. It didn't ruin any of my clothes but it COULD have... I complained and asked for a new iron and points. I got 3,000 😎

Thinking of getting a personal AMEX gold for the rewards and intro points. As the spending has to be significant to qualify for the 20,000 intro points and for it to make sense in general, has anyone else found that their credit score went down due to using AMEX as main spending card? I don’t really need a credit card per se and I just really wanna be able to accumulate points on my spending that I can use as miles/rewards… however not at the expense of my credit score!

What do you do when your manager is micromanaging to the point that it actually has a negative impact on the work? They're not taking any fair feedback and discussion points from myself of the team, giving circular feedback for the sake of feeding back which is having a knock-on effect on timeli, and generally causing the work and morale to suffer.
