Huge congrats! I have a couple family members doing the same.

I’m curious to know though, what was the mentality when you were first getting into the debt? Just trying to understand it better myself!

like

I was going through some major life events (cash advance to pay rent in between jobs, huge vet bills for my dog, personal medical expenses). I always knew I’d pay it off, just think it wouldn’t be so much. FYI, everything else is paid for (car, student loans). This debt is no longer a thorn in my side!!!

I recently moved out of my home and it’s interesting to see my spending go up. Most of my moving expenses are going to be paid off this month so my debt should go down, but it’s definitely scary being in debt.

I would consider keeping the credit line open as you need it to eventually buy a house. On my credit reports I’ve even gotten advice saying I need more credit to improve the score. Interesting how that works right?

Yup. Been there, done that. I’m a former homeowner, and feel renting is the way to go in this stage of my life.

THANK YOU all for your encouragement! Despite the stigma of misusing credit cards, I’m thankful it provided blessings during a trying time. Although I usually pay off debt ASAP, it was nearly impossible to do that in between jobs, moving during a separation, tending to my health, and saving my pup’s life. I wanted to take care of my issues on my own terms without borrowing money from anyone. Working off my first major debt is an incredibly humbling experience, and the last year proved that I’m resilient, resourceful, and a survivor. Cheers to a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 2020!!! 🥳 🎈🎊

No idea how people get into credit card debt. I use my credit card like my debit card. If I don't have the money in my account then I know I can't afford it.

My fiancé and I both have the CSR card and Freedom Unlimited combo and love them. We are thinking of adding another card and we were considering the Amex Platinum (to diversity transfer partners) or likely a United card for lounge access since we live in Chicago.

Does anyone else have both CSR and Amex Platinum? Would you recommend?
