Just read about that woman who did Wikipedia bios for a bunch of women in STEM and minorities in STEM who no one had bothered to write about yet. Such a great idea honestly especially to encourage or demonstrate to younger women that it's possible. For women in any branch of STEM, do you feel like women get the same accolades and media opportunities as men?

I actually think about this a lot in terms of the women I work with and who are in my network, some of them have been pioneers at where they work or in the work they do, and yet unless you have their LinkedIn you might never know it. The media does a kind of one-and-done thing for women in STEM whereas I feel like men are usually mentioned ad nauseam.

That is a fantastic idea. Most women in my network can be found on their LinkedIn or personal website, but other than that it's maybe one or two articles citing accomplishments with no follow-up and sometimes no interview.

Not at all. The media favors men still especially in STEM.

Nope. I know this because every time there's a seminar, our firm always sends the guys. It's the same with media opportunities as well.

Nope. They still prefer men because they think men look like they know things better than women. And I beg to disagree.

Wow that is such a good idea. I would never have thought to do that. I def do not think we get the same accolades or opportunities as men. We have a LONG way to go before women are even considered equal.

Currently a JR PM at an ad agency in NYC. Working on social media for my client. Really don't enjoy it. Previous experience is in experiential marketing and really loved that because I knew humans would interact, touch, and feel the things I helped create.
Not attached to advertising, I crave work that makes me think critically and isn't redundant. I am a huge people person and love interacting with people. I am wondering if anyone has career paths or style of work that is more inline with me 🙂

Hi everyone! I'm in need of some advice.. I have a panel interview in a few days & I'm not sure what to do at this stage of the interview process. Up until now, I've only had initial interviews with recruiters or a 2nd round 1:1 with hiring managers & now I don't know what to expect. I've been told that they use the STAR method for answers & I'm researching that now, but a) what should I expect during this time & b) what are some questions typically asked at this stage? Thanks in advance!

SO beyond frustrated with my work environment I think it may be time to leave for good. I returned from maternity leave after 4 years of working at my very old-school, boys club, nepotism-friendly company. The number of remarks I got on my appearance, my pregnancy and etc was a little annoying before I left, but since I've come back it's been nothing but comments on how they can't believe I'm leaving my husband home with the baby etc. Sorry for the long post just needed to vent!!

Mom's in this bowl, or anyone, do you feel like the place where you work discourages or penalizes women for getting pregnant or wanting to have children? I realized recently that most if not all of the women I work with don't have kids or have expressed that they don't plan to, and I'm wondering if that's intentional.

I’m 25 and have an array of experience within environmental science. I mostly enjoy being a field employee but recognize the pay is not always great. My current position is bureaucratic and technically oriented which is great for skills but not for growth. I know I have more to offer and want to expand into different areas of STEM. Any suggestions or recommendations would help, I’m open to anything!

Hi all! I’m an engineer working in the global health space and I’m finding it’s a small, small pool. I also just found out that a new hire (male, also an engineer) is the reason I got a raise after ~5 years of stagnancy. I love my job, but it’s time to move on. Anyone who’s worked in nonprofit spaces - did you stay? Did you switch to consulting/government/etc or go corporate? I’ve been applying without much response, and I’m debating whether a PMP very or masters is going to be necessary.

Does anyone else wish their school had been more up-to-date on STEM when they were a kid? I went to college with some kids who had been practicing and studying code since middle school. Single women in STEM, do you have to field questions about being single during the holidays like I do? I'm 27, and every single Christmas my mother or grandmother ask me if I've "met any nice boys" and "when I'm planning to make time for a family." I get that they're coming from a good place, but I'd love for them to ask me about my work and how fulfilling that is instead. Tips for (kindly) getting family off your back?

Is it selfish that I'm considering a personal vacation over seeing family for the holidays? My parents and siblings are all healthy and happy and I saw them at Thanksgiving, and this is my first single Christmas in a long time. I have a little extra this month (no longer half-supporting a man who didn't deserve it) and nothing sounds better than disappearing to Cabo for Christmas Eve - New Years. Am I the asshole for not wanting to go home for Christmas?
