Just realized the only essential part of my job is reminding people of Facebook's 20% text rule.

I spend a whole lot of time reminding creative teams that no matter how clever the VO is on the 60 second Facebook video is, nobody will watch it for more than a few seconds and they won’t have sound on in that time.

People would watch more than two seconds of social ads if we didn’t stuff all the boring ass mandatories in the first two seconds.

Strategists’ main job is to help sell entertaining work that people will actually want to watch. You have access to an incredible amount of data that can help guide and inform the work. That data is much easier for clients to trust than a creatives gut.

Use the data you have to back up what creatives bring you. All we want to do is make cool/funny shit. That’s all people want to see online.

Remember, brands aren’t brands on social, they’re people. And if a person only ever tries to sell people something, no one will want to hang out with them.

1. All strategists want to do is make cool/funny shit, too. We just want to make cool/funny shit that serves a purpose so that our clients continue to pay us money.

2. If your social/digital strategist is making you “stuff” shit into the first few seconds they are giving you bad advice.

Why does everyone hate on strategists again?

So that rule doesn't apply anymore, or does it?

Sounds about right

JC1 has it right

D1: 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The the 20% rule is about copy in the graphic right? Not post body copy? Or I bombed a social media writing test for this place I was applying at lol.

Need advice: I feel like I’ve accomplished everything I needed to in my current role and that 1-2 of my direct reports are more than ready to step into my role. But there’s no clear next step for me and my supervisor is a very busy agency executive that doesn’t offer any guidance. I really care about my team and it’s time for me to step aside so they can take their next step but I just don’t know what mine is yet. Anyone else been there?
