Just recently, we exceeded 1 million covid deaths on record globally. When the pandemic started, did anyone actually believe that the situation would become this bad?

Yea i was tracking this outbreak during busy season, it was exponential even at the beginning

like

@Senior Associate 4 Really?! What do you think the multiple is?

Pretty much, I’m not at all surprised it’s been so bad in the US. I don’t want to undermine the current pandemic, but how the US has handled this pandemic worries me about if something even more serious were to happen in this country. We’d be seriously screwed.

So, all leaders were wrong and all people are sheep... got it. My family made our own decision that we were going to isolate before the country shut down so there are many people who had independent thought. I think the bigger issue was information was hard to find since media (notice I didn’t say “news” because that doesn’t exist anymore didn’t cover it.

Yea given that most people don’t care or think the rewards out way the risk, yea I expected it to be this bad

With Trump’s leadership and his dumb followers anything is possible.

Trump certainly didn’t help but this is obnoxiously political. No one in this country has given this the respect it deserves. Red or blue

Yes. I expected that we will all catch it. Just a matter of time.

Yes. It’s a pandemic, so I knew there would be casualties.

like

Yeah there would be some casualties but at the start, I didn't possibly fathom that they would reach the millions

Currently death in US alone is around 200,000. Knowing Americans are interesting people to say the least, I wouldn’t be surprised if US deaths hit 500,000 by mid-2021 or earlier. I don’t want it to happen, but let’s be real.

There’s no way a vaccine will be widely available for at least 3 years is what the top vaccine producers have said. There won’t be a vaccine any time soon.

I called it since the beginning. I started WFH weeks before offices closed down. My team thought I was being silly. Look who was right

This is just the beginning!

Yep

Absolutely

Yes. How could you possibly think otherwise when China literally closed down Wuhan and boarded infected people in their own homes? The human interest stories were insane.

Nah. Hoax. Let’s get back to our lives

This pandemic convinced me if there were ever a zombie outbreak, we’d be completely screwed

At least in the US, actual deaths as a percentage of expected deaths has been below 100% for the last several weeks, which indicates a downward trend

So.. my husband and I live across the country from my family, including my young nieces. We haven’t seen them since before COVID and are not seeing anyone inside who is not vaccinated in our life, and this has not been a problem. We made a plan to vacation with my family to see them again this summer. My BIL is refusing to get vaccinated. Everyone else is vaccinated. My parents and sister aren’t happy about it but feel there is nothing they can do.

Hey everyone, so my sister and her boyfriend have both gained about 60-70 pounds since COVID started. I’m getting very concerned for them and I’ve seen firsthand how they’re developed awful eating and drinking habits and they hardly ever exercise. I’m very concerned for them, but I have no idea how to talk about it with them and not make them angry or hurt. Any advice on how to have this difficult conversation?

Did your salary freeze when you went on mat leave? (I.e. if you got a raise/promotion while on mat leave, it’s not effective until after you come back to work). I heard this has to do with short-term-disability insurance companies. They only pay your salary/rate at the time you start leave. But I feel like the employer should make up for the difference. I mean, why do you have to be paid less just because you are on mat leave. Thoughts?
