Just saw a posting for a 2nd to 5th year corporate associate but “seeking attorney from a top 25 law school, in the top quarter of your graduating class.” Come on, really? Even for a 4th or 5th year, law school grades still matter? Rubbish!

BS! Schools/grades shouldn’t matter at this point, focus on the work product

My experience is some firms have school/grade cut offs, and you must meet them regardless of level. However, if you’re borderline, you have a shot as a senior that you would not have had as a junior, if your experience is otherwise on point. If you’re way below, you may be SOL regardless of good experience.

Grades/school rank is the easiest and most verifiable metric for assessing candidates that are not partners with an established book of business. Given the unreliability of subjectives like exp., references, etc. you can hardly blame firms for relying on them.

JLC 1 its pretty clear you are only able to grasp a single concept at a time and have no real world experience in hiring employees or the multifaceted criteria firms used to evaluate potential hires. I’m glad you have the conviction to stand by your comment that is completely beside the point.

I saw a similar posting, but for someone with 7-10 years experience. I rolled my eyes.

The top 25 thing is annoying, especially since that has been an unstable area in the rankings with 5-way ties between schools. I’d have to go back and take a look, but I think I got into a top 25 law school and graduated from a top 35 law school. And, no, I didn’t transfer.

Second year your school is more important than fifth. That's a big range. Agree with above, if you're more senior and borderline, it's probably worth a shot.

I made a career pivot into a tech role, but it's a 6-month contract and I had to sacrifice my title. Several weeks in, my supervisors realized I'm capable and even mentioned bumping up my title soon. I'm guessing I can't negotiate my salary while still under contract (this is my first contract job). But is this something I can bring up if the role becomes FTE? Do salaries usually change drastically from contract to FT?

Facebook Ads after iOS 14 changes.

I'll share my experience and urge you to share yours:

Since iOS 14 changes, Facebook ads isn't the same anymore. Why?

A. >75% iOS users denied tracking. They are no longer tracked across websites/apps. Facebook lost its edge.
B. Targeting and conversion tracking aren't as effective anymore.
C. Many advertisers have been migrating their budgets from Facebook to Apple and Amazon ads.

What's your experience? Let's all learn.

Second year associate in M&A. I like my group, the hours and market clearly suck, but I can’t complain too much. Is it smart to reply to some of the recruiter emails, just to see what’s out there? Some of these signing bonuses sound very appealing. Do I risk getting in trouble with my firm if they find out?

Non compete question…

I recently got a call from a recruiter for a competitor. Exmanager said I sign a 2 year noncompete…don’t remember but asking 3rd party HR for record.

If this progresses how enforceable is the noncompete clause if a previous manager went an even bigger competitor with theirs not enforced, old marketing manager left & I have been doing both jobs since with no promotion or $ after asking twice. Also I do not have access to any financials or product dev. info.

Thank you!

I’m losing all hope. I’ve been actively applying and interviewing for 8 months now. 3 final round interviews that I was turned away from. Now I’m running out of companies to apply for / people to refer me etc. I seriously don’t know what to do. Is it possible I am just stuck for a while now? I don’t like my industry so the hope of a recruiter reaching out based off my current work experience is worthless because I’m trying to slightly pivot to and ops type role at a start up. HELP

Can any plaintiff side securities litigation associates speak to typical base and total comp? I understand it can vary quite a bit by year but would appreciate a general range.

I (associate at big firm) have a friend (partner at another big firm) that I referred to my current firm. Friend is brought on as a partner at my current firm. If my friend was hired as an associate, I’d be eligible for a nice referral bonus. Stated referral policy refers to associate referrals only. Should I still get a referral bonus? Would you ask about one?
