I always read "it is so ordered" out loud in an overdone valley girl voice:

It is SO ordered!

In my jurisdiction, subpoenas state in all caps: “HEREIN FAIL NOT AT YOUR PERIL.” I always read it in my head in a pirate voice. 😂😂😂 It’s important to keep your sense of humor in this job.

We have some of the most anachronistic jargon, it's wild. And lawyers take themselves so seriously, I like meeting the ones with a sense of humor.

I just got promoted to counsel and also have been binge watching Star Trek The Next Generation in lockdown. I like to amuse myself imagining telling associates to “make it so” in a very serious voice all the time next year. (Whether I’ll actually bring myself to do it is a separate question.)

I am currently a gov attorney at a major metro area in the northeast. I recently received an offer from a ID private firm (1900 billable hours) in the area for about 40k more than my currently salary. I was going to accept, but now I’m having second thoughts about leaving a secure gov job with good benefits. Really not sure what to do.

I think I sold myself short and I’m not sure if there is a way to fix it or if it’s too late. I was verbally offered a position. I asked for the offer letter and HR said they need a conflict check first. While waiting for it, I told the partner that extended the offer that I accepted at the certain salary. I am guessing I can’t negotiate salary once I get the offer letter, but can I negotiate bonus, remote work, etc.?

After practicing law for 8 years, I’m ready to exit the practice altogether. I’ve wanted to do it for years, but never had the guts and, as we know, golden handcuffs are real. I’m a creative (screenwriter/director/graphic designer-dabbler), but have no clue what job I can do to make money while pursuing my passions. Is there a creative corporate role that can leverage legal experience (besides consulting)? No clue where to start. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Guys, What’s your take on salary negotiation during this environment? I was laid off due to COVID in April. I just received a job offer with a much lower salary than I expected and my research indicates am being lowballed to the tune of at least $30k! I think the firm can do better because the practice area is thriving despite COVID! They’re in fact looking to hire more associates! Should I negotiate? I have been offered $115K in NYC\NJ! Am going into my third year of practice!
