Just started a new job as a marketing analyst in tech. But I have strong interest in pivoting to marketing data science in the recent future. I have taken some basic courses in data science at grads school but never got chance to work in the field. For people who are currently in data science with non-tech background, how did you pivot? And what is your career roadmap look like?

Start taking more courses and see if you can land a few freelance projects to get some experience under your belt. Totally do-able, you may just need to have a little patience.

Where can I find those freelance gigs? Any online community or something else rec?

Honestly I switched from cyber security to data science. When I made the pivot I started off by taking a few courses at a time.

Thanks! What courses did you start from?

I would look for opportunities to work in that area. Are there extra projects you can take on at work that might be more closely related?

Freelance work was a big one for me. Also I got a Masters, which helped make the transition easier because I had to do a big project as my thesis, and used that in my interviews etc.

When is the right time to move on from a job? I started at my job 2 years ago right out of college. I was on a new team so I quickly went from junior to senior design to the head of our product.
