There's no training even for new campus hires. You learn from your team leaders/by doing.

Got it - guess why I’m confused is my entire team is new to the client so no one is able to actually answer any of my questions

like

Yep. I got a 2-day “training” to watch videos on harassment, time entry, etc (the usual onboarding stuff) then day 3 started working on my client files. We have two lateral hires who just started with same thing. They came from IA in industry so they’ll definitely be completely lost. Just let your manager and teams know that a lot of the stuff, specially software, is new to you. They understand you’re new so don’t think too much of it. Just take the next 3 months as a opportunity to learn as much as you can before busy season. I started in November. It’s tough but doable. Leverage PY as much as you can.

likefunny

Thank you! I’ve been trying to leverage PY but it’s my first public client and based upon the expectations that were communicated to me on my first day on the client, they aren’t really expecting anything aside from me acting like I’ve been with the firm for years.

Just be careful there. I was in your shoes last year and I ended up with a low tier rating. Make sure you communicate and ask lots of questions. They expect all lateral hires who know everything, which different firms different expectations. Good luck OP!

GT 1 please GT isn’t any better in terms of training. I literally had a night meeting the same day as my orientation. As for training? What training? The only training I had was for me to use my mouth and ask my team aka bosses and my associates for help. Aka New senior guy. If you want to succeed speak up. Otherwise it’ll be extremely hard to succeed. Cause you are learning a new role and new tools. But if you do speak up, you’ll be surprised how many friends you’ll make and how fast you learn!

I'm in the same shoes. They expect me to run a new client but I don't know what I'm doing every day.

like

LOL I said the same thing to myself this morning. I’m willing to do the work to try to figure it out but not when I’m told “I don’t have time” when I ask questions

Kind of the norm today, but back in intern days we had a week long retreat for in person 8 hour trainings with breakfast & lunch provided. Same for new hires. With covid and remote it’s changing.

Some former colleagues at Manager level at B4 left for IB jobs where they joined as Associates. Not sure they got a pay-cut, it’s likely though, but definitely a Title/responsibility/leadership cut in my opinion. How do you feel about either pay-cuts or title cuts when transitioning industries? Does it worth the “cost(s)” if it is really the role you want to move to? (Looking at a possible exit opp, but most likely A or SrA. role at IB boutique, not higher)

What did you do to make it more efficient? Also I can't seem to figure my flange fitting. I follow the guidelines and the suggested one is more uncomfortable than a large size. Help.
