Facts.

~6 months in, still trying to figure things out too. Feel free to reach out if you need a friend to talk to! :)

I also just started a few weeks ago fully remote and am having a hard time getting to know people. The hardest part imo is trying to figure out what to do with all my time since I am not on a project yet either. i’ve been scheduling virtual intros and doing a bunch of trainings

like

You should have an ambassador to help out. Also there are coaches and people in practice that you can reach out to for intro and you could offer help. Do a little stalking and what not to get to know more. I’m 9 months in and still trying to stay afloat so don’t worry

This is very normal for new consultants. In my experience, it takes about a year (on average) for new hires at BCG to get comfortable with the role and understand the ebb and flow of the job. Make sure you ask plenty of questions and try to get to know people as best you can. Attend the virtual happy hours, communicate with your cohort, even email managers and partners in your areas of interest. This is a people-oriented job, so make sure you're taking care of the people aspect.

I’m in your situation as well. I’ve been reaching out to anyone within the group who I’ve had any interaction with prior starting including individuals who may have interviewed me or I spoke to prior to starting (internal transfer). I’m pretty lost as my previous experience with the firm is pretty different, but I’ve been trying to ground myself but asking these questions and trying to relate it back to my previous experience.

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..

I'm a Deloitte Tech Strategy & Architecture Senior Consultant with a Haas MBA looking to transfer to MBB. I'm up for manager this year and appreciate that if you move over you are expected to reset to first year post-MBA but has anybody been able to negotiate maybe a 2nd year post-MBA or even a manager/PL/EM entry? What specific tech skills are MBB looking for that they would be willing to offer flexibility on starting level. Again this is for the consulting not expert tracks at MBB. Many thanks in advance!

In a rapidly growing practice, and perhaps 2 years from (non-equity) “partnership”. I like my team and the work I do, but I’ve only ever been a consultant and am tempted to jump to industry to try it out. Interviewing for a Fortune 20 company and applying to others. Maybe FAANG. Let’s say I’m 60% driven by comp, 40% driven by impact. Am I crazy for looking to leave? Should I just continue to ride this one-way train?
