Just started working with a new client, and they’ve spelled my name wrong in two successive emails. How should I handle?

Slowly increase the font of your email signature until they get it right.

The number of people saying “what’s the big deal, leave it alone” shocks me! 🤯 what’s wrong with expecting baseline dignity aka being referred to by your correct name?

M1 you are not representative of all others in this predicament.

It’s not like they’re saying it incorrectly. You’re going to correct they way someone spells your name I’m email? Think you should get over this.

People get my name wrong all the time. Usually it’s mixing up my first and last name, but they also misspell my first name. I usually let it go a few times before I say anything. On the other hand, I once sent an email to some who’s last name ended in “ie” and I accidentally left off the “e”. Normally, I’m very conscious of names because everyone get mine wrong, so I hate that I made that mistake. This person responded to my email, and, passive aggressively in her signature signed her name with just the “e” in red, bolded and underlined.

That person sounds cringe

Our names are important and they should be said and spelled correctly. I have no issue in gently correcting someone to do so

like

Correction, my name is important to me because my parents gave it me and for that reason, the spelling and pronunciation of it will be correct. If you can pronounce Tchaikovsky you can certainly spell my name. It’s not up for debate

At the end of an email add in “also, just a friendly reminder that my name is spelled ....”

likefunny

Weekly occurrence for me. Asian here

You can politely remind them that they can call you <name> at the start of an email.

I have a 9-letter name with unnecessary letters to have the same sound. It’s the standard spelling but I leave the typos alone unless they straight up use the WRONG name that starts with the same letter

Brooklynn? Charleigh?

Agere Have the same issue with my first name. It’s not very long but tons of tech folks - generally offshore keep getting it working. I feel like responding “You have my commitment that my name in Outlook is spelt correctly”

Start the meeting w/ “Say my name. Now spell my name”
