Hi.. I got an offer from Infosys. I have an experience of 5 years 9 months and my current CTC is 11 LPA. My designation here in pwc is Associate II. They have offered Senior Associate Consultant role with 13 LPA. I’m not sure how the hierarchy works here. Did they offer good designation or do I need to negotiate for a better role?
Also, how is work culture and perks at Infosys?

It’s a bit of a misnomer. I would never have been good at Tech/software engineering even if I had the foresight and energy to put all my eggs in that basket in high school. Big Law provided me with a stable, upward career trajectory with some different career options and I’m grateful about it!
I can co-sign as someone who actually tried it. I love being a lawyer and hated everything about the technical side of IT - my brain just doesn’t work like that haha 🥴. We also have much more earning potential in the long run imo.
Go into tech law. I'm a 10 year attorney who started out in insurance defense litigation and managed to transition to contracts almost 4 years ago. Just started a new job as a tech attorney and they pay pretty well (not $300k). As soon as I changed my LinkedIn title to "global technology lawyer", recruiters started reaching out to me for bigger tech companies paying $350k, bonuses and stocks. Just try to transition if you can. I wasn't aware tech lawyers made this much.
Me too! Been trying to make the same transition and would love to get some insight.
Same. Wish that my work ethic had developed early enough for me to get a comp sci degree. Instead I went polisci…
L1 I graduated HS in 2013 so was definitely on my radar at the time. I was just like too lazy to figure out how to do math and I was good at reading/writing haha.
Yeah, being an attorney is the worst. We all made a mistake
I dunno I feel pretty good making 300k plus bonus 3 years and change out of law school with huge remaining potential for raises…. Just sayin
Courts have been closed for two years so I’ve been bored and dreaming of being bored + rich
Just as a counterpoint, and it does not negate your point whatsoever, but law is one of few industries in my opinion where there isn’t significant age discrimination. Tech is the opposite. Good luck even getting interviews at 50+.
Yup! When I show my bar card then everyone wants to refer to me as Counselor nonstop!
All my tech friends outearn me and are 7-8 years younger. (Not biglaw)
How many big tech company are there? Im wondering how competitive it is to get into big tech vs into big law. Like generally T14 without horrible grades = big law. Whats the equivalent for big tech?
There are clear schools that have a pipeline to the FAANGs of the world, but it’s not as exclusive. They’ll even take people in low-level roles who went to boot camps to cram coding knowledge and, if they work out, they can move up.
Comp is far more variable. So many don’t realize they can negotiate. Patrick McKenzie has some good guidance: https://www.kalzumeus.com/2012/01/23/salary-negotiation/
How long would it take to quit big law, attend a boot camp and become proficient enough to obtain a job like that?
I honestly don't think very long. My friend did exactly that. We went to law school. She couldn't get a decent job so she did a coding/computer science program- maybe at most a year. Now she works at Microsoft. IDK her salary but they gave her $300k in stocks...
