Just transferred from IT Audit to Strategy and Transactions. Been a goal of mine for a while so I’m happy to see it play out. Not posting just to say I did it, but because I’ve been following this bowl for a while and see people get negative about being pigeon holed. There were tons of transferable skills that I was able to highlight that got a role that’s completely different, so I just don’t want anyone feeling discouraged if they’re hitting walls.

Congraz bro! I made a move too earlier and am now in Strategy and Operations. Can’t wait to work on the more interesting projects.

Congrats! How was the interview process? Did you go through a case interview?

like

Thanks! Started off by connecting with a partner then went into a 4 round interview. Beginning was behavioral, middle rounds were technical (walk me through a DCF, comps, etc.) and then final round was very unique questions from the partner to see how I think. Not as serious as a case interview at all. I straight up explained some technical questions as conceptual and then went into how I don’t have a concrete answer but was open to learning it, which I think they appreciated that I wasn’t trying to BS them.

Congrats!! This is awesome

So what skills did you highlight....?

Report writing skills (big one), communication with upper management, navigating ambiguous work streams, management of an offshore team, onboarding of analysts, being able to facilitate meetings, detail orientation through documentation, balance of various work streams/manager. I also highlighted more unique projects that I worked on that I got staffed on through networking.

SaT is broad, what exactly in SaT do you do?

Thank you! Yeah very excited, have heard good things about the group so I’m happy I was able to make the jump. Appreciate the insight here! Happy to chat with whoever btw.

Hey I am interested in making this exact move. Would you mind if I DM you?

Yeah go for it

OP, what is your level and YOE?

Just reaching my 2 year mark, made senior at previous firm before jumping. Joining as associate/staff II with hopes of making senior the following year as the position I joined to was for a senior in a group completely new to me (my case got escalated and they were comfortable bringing me in as experienced associate, I was fine with regressing a level)

Hoping to get some thoughts on career path? I left an agency about 1.5 years ago (content manager and prev social) to go in house (copywriter). Long story short, agency wants to offer me a senior director role. However, this isn't client facing and would be marketing for the agency itself. I left to focus on writing. I love the company where I'm at now. The agency is small compared to my current company, but the title could be helpful later. Thoughts?

I have a really unique opportunity to go in-house with a large company, but I have questions about the motivations and management capabilities of my would be direct supervisor. In other words, I am concerned that my direct supervisor may be a “bad boss.” I am still highly considering the role as this is a position that I know I can excel in and one that I will likely never have the opportunity for again. Should I: 1) take the job; or 2) run for the hills?

How has the Delta variant and other possible variants impacted your firm’s/client’s plans for working in offices? Where do you ladies buy everyday clothing? Early to mid 20s. Where do you get cute but quality clothes made with natural materials? Every time I go clothes shopping I look at the material tag and get so frustrated because mostly are synthetic then natural materials are like wayy to expensive like 500 for a winter sweater, 300 for a cotton dress.. I refused to shop at fast fashion brands like Zara and HM. Sandro and Maje are okay but still mostly synthetic materials. any other brands? Helpppp.

Have any of you been rejected after getting picked in the H1B lottery (and after being on RFE status) ? I just got a notification saying my H1B petition has been denied.

My teammate and I don’t seem to be a good fit. I’m trying my best to bring a lot to the table, always “yes &”, they just aren’t open to collaborate conceptually. Started w the “tough crap, make it work” mindset, but it’s fading. Some mentors and friends in the industry suggest I ask for a new partner. Is that something that’s feasible for a junior to ask? If so, how do I even go about doing that? Our agency currently has established teams, there isn’t much mixing and matching going on.

Conflicted on choosing recommenders. Am in FDD so it’s not like I have a constant direct supervisor…(work with a different team on a deal by deal basis) due to covid drop in the market I was pivoted to another service line for 6 months (eg working capital, restructuring, commercial diligence, etc) and am thinking of getting a supervisor from this since it was longer term than the typical deal (2-3 weeks). Does anyone have advice on this?
