Just want to hear from people who hit FIRE and pulled the plug on working. What are you doing these days? How great is your life? Any regrets?

Retired from the corporate world for almost 2 years now. Life couldn't have been better, even with the pandemic!

These are what takes up my time now: taking care of family and chores around the house, teaching, coaching sports, volunteering for non-profit, taking on odd jobs for small duration that I've never done in my life before just for the heck of it.

My emotional and physical self has never been better. And I'm still on the app, taking a peek from time to time, seeing what people are up to!

Congrats D1 and thanks for sharing your story

Also curious

Probably not on Fishbowl (an app primarily for working professionals)

Curious again. How do you find ways to meaningfully spend your time. We all tend to identify a fair bit with our work and it's a large chunk of our adult lives. Curious as to what fills that void, especially for folks who FIREd in 30s/40s

So I will comment as I un-retired. Think through retirement way beyond the financial. Think through what are you going to do and who are you going to do that with. It is easier said than done to retire when all of your friends are still working. Also think through ho you mentally define yourself. it gets old VERY quickly to say things like “well, before I retired I USED TO BE a consultant” Telling people you don’t work or volunteer to fill your days makes your opinion obsolete quite quickly. Anyway, am now recreationally employed. Will probably do this for a few years until more of my friends retire.

M1 D1 would be cool if you start an early retirement post or bowl. Most of the posts here are those on the path to fire. Would be fun to learn more about life in retirement

I could if I wanted to to be honest. I don’t for this reason. Will open a business instead (franchise).

Good luck. Hope it works out.

The “what do you plan to do” is a real question. I’ll look for a non-profit or volunteer gig. Or do freelance.

Might be nice to make at least the IRA cap to continue contributions as I draw down from standard brokerage. Plus to get some sort of health insurance discount

Hi, I know this isn't the place to seek tax advice. I haven't sold a car so this doesn't apply to me just yet, but was curious on the overall topic and people's experiences if they've dealt with this.
If I bought a car and sold it for less than the initial purchase price, would I pay taxes on the difference between the sale price and cost basis? If so how would I determine my basis in such a rapidly depreciating asset? Trying to decide if selling is worth the potential hassle. TIA

Question about credit scores and MBA loans. (FYI I know this is not mathematically the best option but want to do it to remove mental burden of student loans). Planning on paying off the balance of my MBA loans, ~100K, at the end of the summer once I can save a little more. I have offers to refinance which would give me a free $1,000 and slightly lower interest rate. Would refinancing now and then paying off the “newer debt” in 3 months negatively impact my credit score?

I’m putting my money into VT instead of VTI VXUS bc I really really don’t want to rebalance and want to be hands off. I did research on the tradeoff which was miniscule depending on what the individual wants.

I’m still concerned I’m making a mistake in terms of reaching FIRE even though I max everything I can. Thoughts?
Serious answers only please. I’m just 1 full year into this after some sporadic investments earlier in VTI and VOO. TIA
