No, I’ve been wanting to get back into the office since the WFH situation started. It can also get very tiresome having to communicate everything through Teams and email, when you could easily just pop by their desk if you were in the office. I also miss how collaborative it felt being able to bounce ideas off each other and put up work in the conference room.

If I was in your position just starting out and sharing a small space with a partner, I’d feel the same way as you. Perhaps it’s time to find a new job that offers flex hybrid working? I’m a bit senior and live alone now, and want to be wfh forever. I’m sick of the forced office interactions, small talk and politics at this stage in my career and never want to go in office again.

like

100% agree with this.

You’re not alone for sure! Personally I feel that if I’m gonna work for an agency I want to learn from people around me (I’m only couple years into the career) and don’t want to be exchanging notes on google docs with short and sporadic feedback sessions. Wfh is nice and all but I don’t feel like I’m developing as fast as one would hope. Might as well go work remote forever for some tech company getting double pay and doing social media banners all day if that’s the case!

like

Yeah that’s something I worry about too. I’m only like 2 months into my job, so still very new, but I worry that I’m going to miss out on learning moments by not being able to see/be around other people working. I think my office will probably go back in person this fall (but who knows with the delta situation), but I just feel discouraged sometimes because it seems like the majority want to be full remote. And I get why that works better for some, so I’m hoping for flexibility I guess.

I want to go back. I hate living at my work. I understand everyone’s point of view though.

You are totally valid feeling that way. Where you are in your life, you likely need that. In my 20s and even early 30s i would have felt the same, needing that interaction and escape. My boss and several of my colleagues are huge extroverts and the boss couldn't wait to force us all back in the office. That boss also has a wife at home doing the heavy lifting of managing the house (because of course he does). He likes to have the break from all that at home. In my life, I'm in a different place. I'm a single mom with a school age kid and a young adult kid almost out the door. The household tilts on my axis. I get home from a day at the office and start my second shift. Going into lockdown, I immediately regained 2 hours of my life without the commute. I wasn't a giant ball of stress every morning trying to get everyone out the door, i could do laundry during the week and truly spend my weekends on something fulfilling instead of chores. I actually had a garden that did alright. It was transformative. I slept better, I ate better, I lost 20 lbs. Life was better for me. But that's because of where my life is. We all need to have the options whenever possible to choose what works best for us. Not every job can be done remotely, but for jobs that can (and that was a big reason I went into this field), we demand the flexibility.

I should add that my work excelled during WFH. We had a 70% increase in MQL and 10% more opportunities created in 2020 over 2019. Also, the rest of my team was in china or the Netherlands so i was already having to have conference calls to do anything, all that changed was where i took those calls.

I know we all love the work from home (or do we?) but does anyone actually miss traveling for their consulting engagements and all the fun that goes along with it? The late nights at the office then the bar and random hookups and excitement and all that? Sure it’s a grind but I think I actually miss it too. Maybe I just miss seeing people at work or seeing people at all. I wonder if we’ll ever get back to that.

Anyone just getting tired of their partner on a whole new level with WFH? I feel like we are getting into spats more, I'm getting more resentful of the lack of even workloads/effort, and to top it all off these tensions are literally invading my personal space! Not looking for advice really. Just wondering if anyone else is feeling partner fatigue more now than the Before Times.

Any recommendations for a portable second monitor? Ideally something that would fit in a carry-on? Since I’m still WFH, I’m taking a week-long trip to visit my sister. We’ll both be working during the week and I’d like to avoid working only from a laptop if I can.

Hello All. I am a recent licensed attorney in NY and AZ. A former judge from Albania. I hold a JD from ASU. Thanks

Does anyone else feel like WFH has made higher ups notice you more? I feel like when we were in the office I was always judged by my looks, how young I was, my ability to make small talk, etc., but not the content or quality of my work. Now that the only thing they have to judge me on is my work, it seems like everyone wants to work for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful but also TERRIFIED to go back in the office and watch all that momentum go down the drain.

I’m pretty sure colleagues at my firm are inflating their billable hours. Is this the norm? I suspect many of you will think this is obvious and/or that I’m naive but wtf? I don’t want to sound self-righteous but if most are lying just to make the requirement, then maybe the requirement should be lower.
