Just wanted to say, I visited Atlanta last weekend with some friends and the black excellence was such an unexpected and welcoming culture shock. From the min I landed I was not a minority in literally any location we went to. It made me realize that there’s a deferent relaxing feeling when you truly blend in.

I concur! Several years ago, I was based in Chicago and had a client project in Atlanta, and in addition to not being in the minority among the general public, the client site was half black too! And not only that, but there was black *senior management*, not just a ton of black warehouse workers, security guards, assistants and other low level roles. It was kinds surreal. That project was the only time in a 10 yr career I had a black senior manager, only time I had black women as the 1-2 key client sponsors, and 2nd (and last) time I had a black principal/MD.

I visited from Houston Tx. Which is good in the diverse department. But realized there is a difference between being a high representation of the minority pool and being the majority.

Lol imagine growing up in that experience. Absolutely fantastic. Where did you visit from?

Yes, I love my city! It’s truly a beautiful place to be.

Is it really the promised land? Been thinking of relocating…

Not necessarily the promised land but really Atlanta is amazing and one-of-a-kind city for Black people. I just moved back after being gone for 5 years, and I'm originally from Philly. In that 5 years, I lived in NYC and Philly again and honestly they don't compare to Atlanta in terms of culture and quality of living for the price.

I agree. Houston does not equal Atl having lived in both. There are actually more black people in Houston numerically. Atlanta is the Mecca in the us.

Hi ladies, I need some advice on how to navigate/build a relationship with my fiance's family. Some of his siblings and family members are very standoffish and distant. For background, we are same race different culture. I'm very open and I've learned a lot from my fiance over the years. However, I believe his family still sees me as an outsider and they don't invite me to certain things. At times, it feels isolating and it makes me feel unwelcomed. They're also supposed to be in my wedding.

Ladies, I had a breakthrough with my boyfriend and I am so proud. I have encouraged him to go to therapy for years. He grew up with a father who is emotionally abusive. He felt like he didn’t need to go because he could just “handle it” (part of the toxic culture he was raised in) so I stopped pushing. Yesterday he told me he was going to therapy to try it out, I said okay, and made him a coffee to go. He came home, hugged me, cried, and read me a list of things he was working on. 🥺💛
