The problem with Vayner and his messages is that it’s over generalized and without context. Everyone needs to evaluate what works for them with their own values, goals, and situation; not what is surface level obviousness. Of course it’s better to be happy than not but what does age and profession have to do with it. Happiness is also not constant but just because it’s not constant that doesn’t mean you will be the opposite of happiness.

This is true until you get a cavity. Because the happy pizza person cant afford the dentist because no health/dental insurance, it becomes an absess, they die. Meanwhile unhappy Wall Street person has great bennies, can take the afternoon off with pay, cover the costs no problem. Ruling verdict on trite feel good personal brand wisdom: FALSE.

Money can’t buy happiness. But it can buy a jet ski. And have you ever seen anyone sad on a jet ski?

Says a rich Ceo…. When you’re deciding between going to the doctor and eating, this ridiculously cliche sentiment all of a sudden doesn’t feel so profound. Every job is honorable, but “inspirational” quotes like this give me the creeps.

Anyone who says “I’d rather be happy and broke than rich and miserable” has never been broke lol. If you’re already wealthy and trying to buy your way out of depression, that’s one thing, but being able to cover basic expenses, handle medical emergencies and have stable housing goes a long way.

The 27 year old VP can take his or her money, leave, and do something they actually like

What if the Pizza dude were to suddenly become unhappy? (He is human after all) Then wouldn’t the ole saying “I’d rather be rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy” apply?

likesmart

When I worked there we were told that if we looked forward to Friday our ‘shit is broken.’ Soooo not sure how that hustle culture hive mind is holding up against the work until you die backlash of the past couple of years but this doesn’t seem like a pov that understands the new wave.

WT, “I want you to deal with your problems by becoming RICH!”

delivering pizza at 35 and being happy because you’re doing it for fun while living off your trust fund is way better than being 27 working as a VP on wall street and unhappy because you still have roommates while you’re paying off your student loans with 11% interest.

I will counter Gary. If the Pizza guy is lucky with tips, they make $15.

Someone posted here that Vayner isn’t profitable and hasn’t been in a few years. Perhaps he’s trying to convince himself and the people who work there that money isn’t everything.
