I didn’t consider myself a big drinker until my doctor ordered a blood test that required no alcohol for a week. Took me about 3 months from the time she ordered it to get the blood work done 😂
I may be assuming and concluding too much, but sounds like you may need some help if you feel you have an addictive drinking challenge.
Please seek help from you doctor, the firms confidential phone service, or reach out to a program yourself, etc. I know its easier said than done. But if you're posting here on FB, sounds like you recognize an issue in yourself.
I wish you the best of success overcoming this in the new year!
*She, but I agree with you, PwC4
I stopped drinking a few years ago to get healthier and it felt weird in the beginning but then it became my new normal. Few things to mention though:
1) I mostly only drank socially and didn’t care much for the effect alcohol had on me (ie I didn’t need to feel loose and tipsy). If you drink for stress relief and/or feelings that enable you to lose inhibitions this may be harder to give up.
2) I am generally a social person and never needed liquid confidence to be comfortable in a social setting. Therefore it is easier to be around others who are drinking when I’m not.
3) the hardest part for me was explaining to people over and over why I don’t want to drink. It became a “thing” so I just stopped talking about it and made sure to always have a drink in my hand. I’ve even pretended to take shots without people noticing. It’s amazing how easy it is to fool people that are drunk.
I now attend all happy hours and don’t even bat an eyelash at the drinks. I go straight for the food! I also end up noticing a lot more about my drunk colleagues 🥴 (some of which I’d rather not remember).
Yea it’s easiest to pretend with a drink in your hand and not make it a thing. Good luck!
First, kudos to you for trying to be a better you. I get it, Friday and Saturday night out with friends or a mimosa free brunch. It might be tough mentally, but easier than you think.
It’s becoming more and more common for professionals to abstain from drinking altogether. I’m seeing more and more happy hours being replaced with group jogs or post work yoga. Anybody who is asking you why you’re not drinking might be trying to make conversation. Anybody who is flippant has a problem.
Good luck. Let us know how the journey goes, both on the waistline and the bank account.
I appreciate that, thank you!!
If I don't have something to drink at ANY family function (my side or my husbands side), everyone starts openly asking me if I'm pregnant. Its become a THING. I'm 29 and have been married for 6 years (eventually do plan to have kids). I get upset by it, so my husband has decided to tell everyone that he's snipped so they leave me alone. God I love that man lol
Really? I know so many who don’t drink for lots of reasons. Most sip on a soda or sparkling water and people just assume it’s a mixed drink.
If it’s a matter of willpower or stress you need to find some other way to let that out.
It usually lasts to the earning release happy hour for me.
@OP if you have the right attitude, every hour is a happy hour ;)

I don’t drink in this profession but I’ve also never had a drink in my life. I still go to happy hours and almost always give my drinks to friends.
I’m not a big drinker - I can get 1 drink at an event/HH and make it last the whole time. Or just get tea. No one ever judged because I’m still present!
