It’s gonna be awkward when productivity and profitability go down after forcing us all back in 🤡

I have hovered around 80-90 hrs a week for 2 months now and I can’t fathom adding commute to that
Yup. And I'm tired of hearing from partners that they're afraid we'll lose our ~culture~ if we don't all come back in. I'm at a global firm that relied heavily on telepresence before the pandemic due to working across offices on most deals anyway - what exactly about requiring physical presence in a fancy office contributes so much to culture? Why can't culture be leading and adapting through challenging circumstances? What's wrong with that as a (making obscene gesture) culture?
“Culture” lol

I have to add tho if returning to the office / hybrid mode means ppl will stop expecting responses at 6:30 am, I’ll take it (have my doubts about that though). I don’t think any reputable firm will expect 5x a week in office so not worried about that.
Wow, I'm with you A6. Though I'm usually up working by 730a I don't respond to a single email before 9am. Gotta train them lol.
I never understand why a firm should care about in person or not; so much stuff gets done late at night log ins even precovid. How about downsize the fancy high rise office that young attorneys don't want to be in and funnel that money either paying more or hiring more...I'd rather have a larger paycheck or a reasonable workload than free nitro cold brew or La Croix in the office 24/7. Am in M&A right now, and knowing that my exists to in house in a few years are going to be pretty solid, I couldn't care less about going back in person...

Preach!
Half of my work is done with people I’ve never personally met in other offices anyway. I feel just as connected to them.
