KPMG reached out about a role and I’m 99% sure I should state I’m not interested. Would KPMG 🐠 agree? Have heard the environment isn’t the best.

I don’t understand the question. Are you not interested in the role itself, or working for KPMG? I’ve worked at 3 of the big4 and KPMG has been my favorite thus far. That being said, having the smallest consulting practice does have quirks, but the culture is easily the best in my experience.

Welcome. Dive in, the water’s fine.

Big 4 firms are too large to be considered as having “great environments” in broad strokes. There’s probably incredible teams within KPMG, there’s also probably god awful ones. Similarly, there are partners within EY who’s teams I would love to join, and also partners that would probably make me cry myself to sleep every night if I worked for them.

And the whole “they pay worse” thing is a tired trope too. I got a nice lift in pay from another B4 I worked at before and have no complaints about the raises and bonuses I’ve gotten (except last year of course, but no one was spared). Go to any company bowl and you’ll read the same thing. As stated, all firms have stronger and weaker practices relatively, so worth inquiring on specific capabilities. Probably unwise to make a sweeping generalization about a firm without that kind of DD. The one thing I will say broadly is that of the several firms I’ve worked for, I like KPMG’s culture best. If you’re a Consultant, I’m assuming that means you’re junior, which means you’re in learning and collect different experience mode? Not the worst thing in the world to do that at a place that generally has nicer people. Unless you work better in a more competitive environment, at which point don’t come. Not that kind of place.

This is vv helpful perspective! I

Depends. Pay ain’t great, but in my 3 years of experience here, I haven’t had to work long hrs. Most projects have been 40-50 hr weeks. Also most ppl I meet are pretty chill and easy to work with. But I’m also leaving soon simply bc the pay is so behind everyone else and KPMG refuses to even acknowledge it.

Most all companies pay more for external hires. It's supply and demand. A current employee has already agreed to their market value.

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!
