Back here to say - men are wonderful (or so they claim) problem solvers so you kick yours out of what was your office and have him figure out what and where he needs to be. It seems you let him take the lead or I guess he took the lead?!? Before buying it should have been a good convo on what each of your needs are and how long such arrangement would last, etc…

The incident you describe is a data point. Do us all a favor here and power through next week or two and make sure to observe his behavior but not to fight him but to emulate him. Be loud, be whatever you need to be (and if out of ideas copy cat him). Have him “propose” another solution for you two in a couple of weeks and let us know how that goes. Tooth for tooth baby!

I was on board with this being a crappy situation, I also live in a one bedroom and share an office space with my husband. UNTIL I saw your comment that you've been working from a laptop alone while he's had his entire office setup the whole time. I think it's ridiculous, for ergonomic and mental health reasons, that you weren't at least rotating who had access to which space. I also think it's ridiculous that your basic needs in being able to achieve at work, i.e.,being able to speak on important calls, were overridden both during the furniture purchase and during the actual meeting. As a married woman who puts up with more than I should, KICK HIS ASS OUT!!! He can take the dining room.

EY I was responding to your last message about the personal investment. Does your house have a basement or den area? Otherwise try looking into library or coworking spaces

My husband and I share our office, he’s in sales so is on the phone quite often as well. We spend ~5 minutes the night before or the morning of each day and look at our calendars and if there’s an overlap of meetings, we will decide who gets to stay in the office and who needs to temporarily camp out at our dining room table for an hour or two. It works really well for us.

client call this morning without about 7 execs and I basically had to stay muted the whole time because he was a) also on a call with his team, b) talking SO loud (using headphones), and c) occasionally laughing and cursing. This was my first time meeting a few of these clients and I feel like a lost out on a high-visibility opportunity to shine. I was sharing my screen and taking live notes so I couldn’t get up to move rooms. I’m annoyed at my husband and would love any thoughts / recommendations. Oh - and we talk through our call schedules every AM. He knew this was an important one for me (his was internal with his team).

I would have gone on mute and told him to get out

So, you can go back to your previous dining room setup and not be worse off. You can do the less than ideal office in bedroom, but circumstances are just not ideal. You can convince your kids to share a room. I’d do the first or second, possibly with a weekly or monthly rotation agreement so it’s not just one person with the real office all the time.

I used to be in the same situation and calls are terrible. Why not set up a work section in the dining room or other spaces in the house? Can section it off with bookshelf or something

I had spent months working in the dining room, but that limited our ability to actually eat in there, plus I was limited to my laptop (vs. monitor, mouse, keyboard, standing desk, etc.)

my husband handled my toddler aggressively ..for instance , my toddler was sick and woke up from a nap and my husband forcefully gave him a covid test (I suggested that we wait until bedtime to fife him a test). when I protested he grabbed my screaming toddler andmy husband literally pushed me in my home office to go back to work. this seems abusive, doesn’t it?

Had an employee request a standing desk due to back problems. went through the ADA process & the employee obtained a doctor's note to support their request. However, the note was questionable. it was from an acupuncturist, on a word doc, no real signature and just said that a standing desk would prevent pain & improve their productivity, nothing about him not being able to work without it. Thoughts? Also, what do you think about having certifications from non-traditional doctors?

Company : Hey take this money and buy an office chair, table ,extra monitors, accessories to setup your home office. Me : Hey! Thanks. Company : Are you now comfortable working from home and feel productive ? Me : Yeah. Company: Awesome! I have really been struggling with my morning routine since starting my new job last month. I leaned a bit too hard into rest culture during the few weeks I took off between jobs, and now don’t get out of bed before 8:50 to brush my teeth and head into my home office lol.
