Im a manager and I enjoy my job a lot, but eventually I want my entire work to be devoted to helping others. Its been weighing on me more and more and when I think of the fact that one day I’ll die, It makes me realize how much time im wasting working for big firms only in order to make money and live a secure comfortable life. I dno maybe Im lacking purpose with these big firms and wondering if anyone ever feels the same way too.

Also, PwC has a huge financial literacy program, which you can take into local schools or aftercare programs.

Try joining a volunteer group through an organization (Junior League, Church, Boys and Girls Club, American Heart Association, etc). Best thing I ever did for myself as an associate. Third year manager now, and my soul feels fulfilled everyday. Work may not give you that feeling, so find what does and do it!

Volunteer for a cause close to your heart. Not too time consuming if you do it a few fines a month.

OP: yes, we all could be doing more. That’s what evenings ( email senators and congressmen ) are go and weekend ( volunteer). Keep your eyes on the prize and focus on what’s most important

1. I do work that helps people through my normal job. 2. I am actively involved in philanthropy at Booz Allen and have organized/ co-organized nine volunteer events that serve the community in the past year. It’s slightly exhausting but it’s totally worth all of the hard work and extra hours put in. Once an event goes off and you see the difference made it is the best feeling in the world and gives me all the energy to jump into the next one.

Yes. I came from a small non profit before grad school and while I hated the inefficiency I do miss the feeling of purpose. See if your firm had a non-profit arm. I don’t see myself staying in this work forever. Whether it’s the non-profit/development arm of my firm or elsewhere, I know I won’t make as much but that’s okay in the long run

OP do you practice a faith? I’ve found that to be the only thing that gives me direction and a hope

All the time. A sense of purpose is what I need

That’s amazing P1. I would have benefitted from that when I was younger!

Yes, I was there as well, and decided to leave ACN after 10+ years to start my own biz. Was a big leap (and scary for sure), but I justified it with the fact that I could always go back if need be. If really feeling the need to serve, then start a side passion... and if it starts getting big enough, maybe take the leap like I did. Happy to chat if interested.
