Move to industry. 60k more is significant.

Stick to the facts - % utilization, participation in sales, praises from client, follow-on work sold etc. Once you have painted a portrait really flattering, talk about how you want to be committed to the firm, what more you want to do next year and then you can say that this disappointing raise is pushing you to reassess everything. If the offer is from the industry I doubt it will be very impactful but come with figures in terms of how much more you’d like to be paid. Don’t be afraid to ask, you have everything to win nothing to lose.

Thank you both! I know it's a HUGE difference but I've only been with the firm for a year (came from industry) and I feel like there is a lot more I can gain before I leave consulting. The problem is the opp cost is high and whilst I understand there won't ever be parity at this level, I want to at least see if they can meet me part way. Otherwise... I may just have to leave 😔

Thank you SM1 - I just don't want to be seen as making empty threats or an ultimatum, because I'm honestly not trying to. Re having nothing to lose... I'm not sure that's entirely accurate - there's the reputational impact that worries me 😕 but I'm going in for the conversation tomorrow so will keep you updated!

I’m saying get the mindset of “nothing to lose” and honestly it’s true: remember it’s just business, you have to get your time worth the $$. If you stay professional and focus on the facts no reason this will go bad. At the end of the day worst case scenario they don’t want to give you more, you have a sweet deal waiting for you.

Go for higher pay and work to develop the skills you are after in a position that pays you more.

My one year at first out of college job is coming up, despite conditions - should I still ask for a raise and a formal virtual performance review. (It is a small firm and they will avoid it if I don’t bring it up). The firm has been making the same if not more profits than they usually would. Thanks!

I was offered a large raise/promotion at my current company (Series A Funded, been here since seed round). I have the option to do stock or cash or a combo. Anyone have an idea on what to do for something like this? We have good funding and are considered a first mover in our vertical. It's SaaS but we are having issues figuring out our business model and product. We have a lot of F100 customers though. any suggestions?

Curious if anyone has advice if I should look for another job. My boss is a micro manager, not big on WLB, I don’t see an opportunity to independently work on projects ever and there is no path to promotion since it’s a very small team. On the flip side, he’d take me to all exec meetings and it’s been in an incredible learning experience to be in those rooms, listening and knowing where I’m making an impact. He’s been a good coach and thinks highly of me. (Contd.)

How much raise can someone get switching from B4 to B4 laterally? I would be switching at 2 YOE for a 1 title up from entry level role. Severely underpaid currently (estimated at 15% below peers despite literally perfect ratings).

Looking to move apartments in DC…is spending 25%-30% of take home pay on rent too much? There are a lot of smaller options for cheaper, but want to find a place that I’d want to stay at for a few years, even if on higher end. Anticipating a likely raise in April, worst case July. Want to move now. Without raise, rent would be 30% take home; with raise, 25%. Or am I just overthinking it lol
