Let’s talk if you’re interested. Many in our firm came from Big 4 and have found lots of support. Lots of questions to ask still, but in general there’s great opportunity at BT right now, especially if you’re looking to move up.

Thanks so much for offering! I have an offer on the table from another firm. Encouraging to hear ex-big 4 have found better opportunities at a smaller firm like BT.

This can be either a good move or a bad move. A lot depends on which firm you go to. Keep in mind that smaller firms don’t have the technology or resources big 4 have. You will be working with a different caliber of staff, most likely less motivated and less ambitious. Clients are less sophisticated, and you will likely have to step down more than you did at big 4. Also make sure there is a clear path to partnership, otherwise I personally see no reason to make that switch.

SM3 - I’m speaking from experience. It’s not a stuck up big4 comment. I think it’s a reality and although may not be true across the board (there will definitely be professionals that are amazing at any firm) it’s definitely a hard truth generally speaking. I was skeptical as well, but it’s just the way it is.

I did it and it was the best decision of my career - Deloitte to a mid sized firm. After I left I couldn’t believe how long I had stayed in B4!

Do you mind if I message you with a few questions around leaving big 4?

Former Big 4 here and at a top ten firm. It depends on the office and practice you’re joining. There are many challenges and opportunities when going to a smaller firm.

Would you mind elaborating what some of the challenges were for you?

Agreed with BT 1. Many in our firm come from big 4 and love it. I’ve been here 9 years and don’t see myself leaving anytime soon.

I worked at a mid size firm that had mostly ex big four as the managers / sr managers / partners Challenge when you go lower than a top ten PA firm is dealing with M&A or possible m&a

I left a big 4 for a top 10 and have never regretted it. My team today is as good and in many ways better than what I had in my previous life. There are challenges in terms of technical resources, but overall it's a lot better for me.

Absolutely. Any time
