If the assistant just did hair washing or something simple, I’ll do $5 each. If more involved, then I’ll give the salon 20% to divide among themselves
Reading this made me realize that I’ve been getting totally ripped off for years now lol. My hair color is normally $500+ and when I pay it pops up with an option to tip assistant 1, assistant 2, stylist, etc etc - I’m a pushover and always just give everyone $10 and the stylist 20%, but I just realized that’s easily adding up to 30%+ overall. It’s not my choice or my problem that you pulled in 3 assistants to help, we should just tip 20% overall to the stylist and she should distribute it out as necessary.

if an assistant washes my hair, I tip them $10
Wow. Fortunately my stylist has no assistants and does all the work herself! Cut and color usually runs $150. Pacific Northwest.
