Women In Consulting

Ladies, I just got a 27% increase and a promotion! 4 years ago I was making under 30k as a secretary. I'm now less than 5k from 100k/yr. 😳 I am crying. I feel like I've made it, and I'm not done!

Congratulations!! Keep on keeping on, sister! To quote a favorite journalist of mine, "Lift as you climb!" Your story obviously resonates with so many of us here, we all need the reminder to support each other and be the female mentor we had or wished we had along the way. I don't know you, but I "know" you and I am so proud of you!!!

Congratulations OP! Nothing like that feeling of hitting 6 figures in income. Similar story here, my first job out of college in 2011 (personal assistant/PM) paid me 26k before I got into consulting. Now I’m making $148k and just got promoted to SM!

Congrats!! I'm hoping to be at that price point soon enough too! If I promote every 1.5-2 years, I'll still be on my own personal time track I've set for myself. 😀

Thanks everyone! In the past 2 years, I got into consulting, finished my bachelor's (they hired me because I had 1 class left, but had govt knowledge from a GS secretary position), started my Master's, left my abusive ex, bought a house, found the love of my life, and now I'm about to hit 6 figures!!! It's been one hell of a ride and I couldn't be happier.

BAH - similar storyline. 30k for a tech startup post grad.. got into consulting, and 3 years almost to the day later I hit 110. Quite the trajectory you’re on - I’m very proud of you! I remember that feeling. Enjoy it, you very much deserve it!

Ladies!!! I got a 4% merit today, bringing me to that 6 figure spot! It was the only thing that got me through the verbal beating from the female senior telling me I should do more... and then seemed surprised when I told her what I do... but that’s beside the point. I hit 6 figures!

M7 infrastructure in Texas. I'm currently paid near bottom of scale in my group. I'm not upset and love my job and my peers. I have an offer for 40% raise to industry job. I prefer my current work though, both from daily work and career path. But 40% raise is a big deal. At what point is the pay raise more important than daily work joy. I'm stressing over this decision. I don't really want to leave.

Wanted to get some thoughts. My wife works in private accounting and just got promoted to manager. We prepared for her compensation negotiation for about a week. She goes in and they low ball her with only a 4k raise. She counters with her value to the firm and the office managing partner literally laughs in her face. You guys think she should just bail? I am embarrassed that this is how they treat their employees.

New to options so appreciate the help in advance- have bought call options OOM - earnings is tomorrow - currently would make profit if I sold- but expecting good news tomorrow that would raise the underlying price. Multiple people are saying you should sell before earnings because the options price may actually go down - can someone explain if this is accurate and why?

Hello! I’m looking for advice on asking for a raise. I accepted a UX design role about a year ago within my company and I was verbally told I would receive a raise with my title change after a few months on the job. After a few months, I was told no raises because of the pandemic (understood). With a new year and recently receiving my masters in UX, when is the right time to ask for the raise with the pandemic still happening?

Help! I’m a decent teacher but admin has a target on my back this year & NO ONE knows why. I’m receiving my second write-up for an absolutely ridiculous reason (my rep agrees that it’s total crap but they manipulate the wording just-so to make it sound legit), but a third & I can be fired. I have to finish the year where I am to have my student loans forgiven. I’m terrified to go to work every day. A large part of my future is on the line & I’m stuck. It’s so unjust but I have no recourse.
