The usual stuff is stuff that is really needed and appreciated at this stage to be honest. Diapers ( I didn’t have to buy diapers till baby was about 6 months cos people gave us so much, loved it!), wipes, practical clothes (onesies and sleepers! My baby lived in sleepers till about 3/4 months. Also, ask her if she has a lot first, they grow so fast this early that I’d rather have had diapers tbh). Nursing friendly clothes for mama (if she plans on nursing).
I’m sure people are different and you are very thoughtful but at this stage for me, anything else would have ended up at the bottom of a drawer to be dug up when I came up for air after about 6 months to a year

I would ask them what they need instead of buying unnecessary stuff thats going to take up space

As a new mom, I wanted target/Amazon gift cards and restaurant/Starbucks gift cards. I bought so many things that I didn’t know I needed (or didn’t get the hype) before baby was here. And I had a huge baby shower so I thought I had everything. My baby spit up on everything so anything lux would have been stashed in the back of the closet so it wasn’t ruined.
I also liked gift cards for food so I didn’t feel silly for living on takeout and Starbucks. I did not want to cook but I did because it felt wasteful to keep paying for take out.

Monogrammed silver baby cup or rattle.

Same same.
Board books. Never too young to start reading
How much do you want to spend? Something for mom - a teething necklace she can wear. Something for baby - Ball or Baby Cars. If the parents have a favorite team, get a stuffed animal that aligns with the team.
Something they need for sure (or even a gift card for amazon/target etc that will probably be used for diapers) and something small. I like to give a crinkle book which makes getting into reading at an early age easy and fun. Highly recommend 'puppy tails' (or animal tails or kitty tails or pony tails etc) by jellycat. Infants love sensory things!
We had someone send my son an Angel Dear monogrammed lovie with his name. It sat in the nursery as decor for awhile until about 10 months. He’s 18 months, and he loves snuggling with it at night and naps. If you want to get mama something, a gift card for Uber Eats/DoorDash would be very appreciated!
