I recommend reading “the first 90 days.” It is a good book if you’re starting at a new place and even in a new role.
I started having some thoughts on things I can track/report and I shared those with him a month in. Now I'm thinking, maybe that was too soon. Will they think I'm over-stepping immediately? I'm trying to find the right balance and also do want to take the time to get familiar with everything, but now I think I may have jumped the gun and being too enthusiastic to start doing things will be detrimental to me. Maybe it would have been better to pull in the reigns? I wanted to.make a good impression but I think I'm just overkilling it. Would appreciate any perspectives and thoughts.
I guess now that I'm thinking about it more and everywhere I read, it says slow down and take stock first. Have I completely set myself up for failure? I'm so used to go go go, that I didn't put thought into this..

Don’t feel that way. Take a step back. You were a consultant once. Take time to absorb everything about the organization: operations, culture, strategic plans, etc. before you go hard on a specific goal. All of these are important but it’s not too late to take a step back and have an honest discussion with your leaders about expectations and long term goals of your org and how you plan to support that. You are the new person and should def share your perspective but also take some time to observe the way the org works to get buy in from the important players on whatever changes you want to implement.
