I loved nexplanon. After initial stabilization i only had a period maybe 5 times over 3 years. Each time removed was able to get pregnant within a couple months as well
I have the mirena iud. I have been happy with it. The initial cramping was uncomfortable and lasted a few weeks but it’s nice to not think about it. I think from a hormone stand point it’s been better for me than a pill. My understanding is that’s because it’s just a steady release of a hormone rather than the peak you get when you take a pill. I wanted the copper, hormone free iud but after a lot of research and asking nurses a million questions, I decided on mirena
Also tried Mirena despite concerns about the hormones. I didn’t notice any side effects at all after insertion (and no issues for 6.5 yrs with it). Did have a weird month after I had it removed but I have no idea if it was related to the hormones, just getting used to having a “real” period, or totally unrelated to the IUD. Got pregnant very quickly after removal and plan to do another Mirena postpartum.
Mirena IUD. I did have to get it adjusted about a month after getting it, but after that had no side effects.
It's not low on side effects, but Mirena is great as preventing pregnancy, and it's most common side effect is suppression of menstruation, so I was all for it. I loved both that I had.
My period stopping was really the big one. I think it suppressed libido, but it was kind of hard to tell because I had little kids. I didn't really experience weight gain or hair loss (again, I got it 8 weeks post partum and had the expected PP hairloss, so differentiating was a challenge).
I think my skin was clearer, actually. With my cycle, I would usually have a pimple show up at the start but when I had the Mirena, I dont recall having any breakouts.
I had some minimal, very sporadic spotting, which was annoying. But it was far less of an issue than having a regular period that would show up a day early or a day late now and then.
