Ladies what do you think: Should a woman out on maternity leave of 1 year get the same runway (#of years) to the next milestone as her male colleagues? Assuming performance is at par.

I don’t believe tenure should play a role in anyone’s promotion. If performance justifies a promotion, then yes. If performance / skills are lagging a bit (which is possible for anyone who is out a year), then no.

likesmart

Yes. If she was in track to being promoted when she goes on leave she should be promoted in that cycle. Folks know about promotions a year in advance (if you are being properly coached). I worked with a woman who was promoted to partner while she was on mat leave. She was a Boss! Otherwise you are punishing women for having children

like

I don’t have children, but I’d say no. They can get tenure in the company that goes toward whatever those benefits include, but for a promotion, I’d say no assuming all else was equal. Maybe if the female employee came back firing on all cylinders like she never left, possibly

like

As in, should the woman’s tenure ‘clock’ include the time she’s out on maternity leave? No. Just like above - unless she comes back 2x as productive and valuable as before, things should be ‘frozen’ when she leaves.

like

I don’t have children yet but I don’t think maternity leave should be counted towards tenure. Unfortunately it is a trade off we have to face. It’s only a punishment that after you come back and are required longer tenure than male colleagues to be promoted.

like

I don’t think we are talking about the same thing here. I’m not arguing whether tenure is a legitimate metric for promotion. I’m saying in the case that tenure is required, say at BCG it takes 18-27 months of PL work to be promoted to Principal, the parents’ time at home with the baby should not be counted towards the 18-27 months.

OP are you saying that women’s career’s should be set back because they didn’t come back from leave quickly? Or that by signing up for having children we should acknowledge that our careers are being set back? Let me ask this, if a man had to take a leave of absence due to a contentious divorce (as an example), would you expect this to set his career back? Not trying to be defensive, genuinely trying to understand your PoV.

I know there could be a bonus at the time of the transaction or benefits of staying after the transaction, but I am not doing my best work and I want to be motivated and inspired again. Cont’d:

Hi! I just got converted to full time as a intern, and received this email about 401k which I don’t quite understand. Does the 3% means the match that company gives to me for free? So I don’t have to contribute anything to my 401k while getting free 3% match money? Thank you!!

Hey! I've always wanted to get into IB (prestige, money, you name it), however now that I'm in a more laid back environment (better WLB, "easier work") it doesn't seem as attractive as before and the pay is quite good for an analyst level (I think the pay is competitive even comparing with IB's pay in my country) . I wanted to know if anyone had the same experience and what were your thoughts (pursue an MBA and leave your comfort zone and "good pay" or just stick with it). TIA!

Hi everyone. I’m new here but I think I’ll get a lot of really good feedback. I work in government procurement. I worked remote during the pandemic and now my manager cannot see his way to letting us work from home. Our department is the only one in the organization that is in the office all the time. It is really hurting morale and, personally, making me look for something different. What is everyone’s experience with old school management? Thank you!

Talk some logic into me please. Been seeing someone for 2 months. We both agreed we aren’t ready for exclusivity & don’t know if we see long term with each other (both have been divorced & hesitant to hop into anything) but that we wanted to continue to see how things develop. We both been on dates with other people. He shared he went on a 2nd date with someone last night & it went well. Why do I feel so cruddy? I’m not sure if this happens to you, I’m constantly intimidated and feel judged by white men and women and/or people born in the US for having a strong foreign accent in the US. How do I battle this situation? Would definitely like both perspectives.

Does it bother you when someone you care about won't let you treat them (like on special occasions such as birthdays and stuff)? I don't know why it's upsetting me so much, and I'm trying to figure out what the root of my issue is. I'm getting overly emotional about it. It makes me feel like I'm making it about me vs. them, which is not what I want to do at all. On the contrary, I want them to enjoy whatever I treat them to, but this is all backfiring because I can't control my emotions.
