Only pros for Mirena. Birth control without having to think about it, much lighter period, little pain for me (if inserted during period!)
Wow - the things we go through right ladies !
Chief
Pros: no period for 6+ years, no birth control side effects, and it actually helped my skin. Was fine getting it removed
Cons: hurt so bad going in (they had to try twice) that I threw up and nearly passed out. Lasted 1/2 the day though, worth it for all of the upside.
This exactly my experience!
I have the mirena, 10/10 would recommend
Pros: one of the most effective forms of birth control, I don’t have to think about it or worry about unplanned pregnancy
Cons: good for 7 years, but at the 5 year mark I started getting more PMS symptoms than I’ve had in the past. Doctor said the hormones are probably wearing off but it’s still effective (could switch it do a new one if I wanted to)

“Pulling out” is not birth control.
Pros: haven’t had my period in 7 years
Con: a few months straight of bleeding at the beginning, insertion process can be a bit uncomfortable
Overall, extremely happy with it. So good I got it twice 🙂
I have had a skyla and Kyleena and also worked in family planning- the only con i have is the 2 intense cramps and sweating after insertion. Everything else is a dream. I’ve had an amazing experience on both with minimal bleeding, no expulsion scares, and most importantly… NO PREGNANCY SCARES. After my Kyleena runs out next year, you bet your bottom dollar I’ll be getting another one (why did I just go into Annie mode?)
It’s a great choice for a lot of women, but not all women (re: a couple of the ladies above citing anatomical issues, so definitely talk to your HCP and they can help)

Pros: it gets the job done when it comes to birth control
Cons: bleeding for the first 2.5 months after it’s inserted (at least in my case).
Me too. Also it hurts my libido…

I LOVED MINE (Mirena)! No cons at all. Had it in for 5 years, no cramping/pms, no periods for the entire time. Boyfriend now husband never used a condom and didn’t pull out - no babies 🙌🏻🥳 if you have a high pain tolerance, the insertion isn’t too bad (take 800 mg ibuprofen before is what my doc recommended and gave a pill to open my cervix). Getting it out, my doc used the cough method and it didn’t hurt at all.
It was literally the best decision I ever made. Another pro, my doctor said that since I didn’t ovulate / have a period that it helped to preserve my eggs 💕 and with future baby planning in mind, I started ovulating again about a month after removal, periods were extremely regular and very light.
Mirena
Pros: had a year without periods
Cons: violently ill for a full day after getting it inserted, acne appeared after getting it, pms became terrible the last 2 years of having it in
Will not ever get it again
I have a copper (Paraguard) one and love it.
First 6 months I had cramps leading up to and during my period (got better over time). This is from somebody who never had a period cramp before. Also heavier periods which have leveled out over time.
I've never taken hormonal birth control and after some family things I never want to. Best compromise without the worry, and it's the most effective.
I'm so afraid to get Mirena in January for the pain and potential acne. Been on the pill for over a decade. I have my wedding in April, should I delay it until after so I don't have to worry about any potential side effects?

Mirena totally cleared my acne 🤷♀️
I am just going say why the F can guys on put on condoms and avoid all this hassle and pain and agony. That is THE simplest choice! 😢😢😢

Condoms are a massive hassle. I'm on the pill. It's not amazing but buying and putting on condoms all the time would be the worst esp if it's with a long term partner.
Recommend!! I have Mirena!
Mirena gave me horrible hormonal acne which prompted me to remove only 4 months in. Acne issues persist 7 years later.. I’m currently on Yaz to control the acne (works great). Any attempts to go off Yaz result in immediate return of acne 😭
I’ve had the same experience with Mirena. My gynac pressured me into getting it, knowing that there was little to no research on it at that time. After I noticed the hormonal acne I called her to express my concerns and the response I got was basically gaslighting 😭😭😭 I haven’t removed it because I don’t know what other type of bc to get yet
My daughter just got hers out last month after 4 years. It worked fine as a contraceptive but she felt awful. She looks and feels so much better in just a month
All pros, no cons
Pro: minimal to no periods, set it and forget it
Cons: took 3 cycles to get back to normal after removing, hurts for a minute going in and coming out
Pro
Just got one yesterday, mate that pain…. I broke out in sweat after the procedure and almost threw up… Jesus h Christ
Pro
Nope, got in the Uber and the ride was worse than the insertion 🤣 yeah and agree with comment below, my stomach got soooo upset 🤦🏽♀️💀
Pros: no daily thinking about birth control.
Cons: as said above, most painful day of my life so far. But a friend said that it is a MUST to get it inserted while on your period for less pain.
Are drs really willing to insert on a period? Gosh I am a cleanup before a wax girl I can’t even imagine. Scheduled but scared to go once she said take ibuprofen before you come in 🤦🏽♀️
You are supposed to get it inserted during a period! cervix is more open + natural lubrication
