You realize the people that made the decision aren't the ones that know you/your work/value you. I typically take the opinions of strangers to be worthless.
Deloitte didn't make you the person you are today, and they can't take that away either.
Sincerely,
The person that Deloitte also broke down, but found a place that appreciated me much more.
Thanks a lot KPMG1! I’m so sorry to hear you had bad experience at D. I had a great project team and met cool people from my Grad school. But the lay off came 2 days after Europe vacation when I took PTO after a year.
I’m an international and suffer from high functional depression too so this whole lay off has thrown me off my routine and no longer access to challenging work makes my anxiety spike.
I’m in the same boat right now—it’s so hard to go from pushing hard around the clock to just having an empty calendar. For me, structuring my days is helping (e.g., I’m going to research jobs in X industry from 10-12, then I have a networking call at 12:30, etc.) to feel like I’m moving forward with my career and that my time is organized, at least 9-5. After 5 I’ve been revisiting things I enjoy but didn’t have time to do while working—hit up a workout class, get dinner with an old friend, watch a movie. The worst feeling is to just stew in what happened—I’m still angry about it, but nothing can be done at this point but move on (like a bad breakup!)
as an ex-EYian I can relate. I'm not here to brag about KPMG'S greatness, but perception is reality. if to someone, you weren't meeting expectations - this is what you will be concluded as.
I know this sounds harsh, but this is the way it works. no one has time to recheck, reevaluate what happened etc. they will just accept it and do the next actions - pls know that I'm coming from a good place when I say this 🙇
I am at a much better place now - you can't let an opinion define you.
if you are able to sleep at night knowing that you put in your best, that is MOST IMPORTANT SIGN that it wasn't your fault. since you are good as you say you are, keep yourself strong and don't lose momentum!
I was actually an outcast at EY and cold storage cause of "bad performance" but hey. I moved on to British Petroleum, got a spot bonus (on top of the usual performance bonus) and am now at KPMG in advisory.
dont you know people throw stones at things that shine? 🙆 love you girl
in the end, your carreer WILL SPEAK FOR ITSELF.
111% utilization??? Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, OP. That’s not sustainable, and you deserve a full life that’s about more than being a road warrior and that you can truly enjoy.
OP, I am sorry and I can understand how hard it is.
However you have to keep in mind that layoffs are not personal and you should not take it as a reflection your performance or potential. They’re a business decision based on either underperformance of your business unit or low projected growth or exiting that business or all of these. When we make those they’re done at that level and not at “OP needs to be let go.” As devastating of news as that is, you have to remember that it is not about you personally. You didn’t do anything wrong.
Be upset. Be angry. But let go and move on. Don’t let this hold you back. There are bigger and greater things out there. You will come out on top and rock this world.
Big hug.
Dont ever feel worthless because some people couldn't understand your worth! You will definitely find a much better place that will truly appreciate your worth and value it the way it should be valued!
Why can’t they be honest about business flailing and not make us feel like shit when laying off? They actually put in all the feedback I had been requesting for over a year only when they laid me off! To use as CYA in case I came after them...
Any sort of reason given as explanation? Honestly sounds like D’s recent layoffs hit a lot of good people
Nope no explanation just standard script
Don't feel worthless. I've been laid off three times over my career. It was never about me, always about the business flailing. Take the pay, use the time wisely. You will find something better.
How?! GPS or commercial??
Have you always been a high performer?
How high was your salary?
Commercial, SC with 129k base. My first project wasn’t the best fit. Otherwise good reviews
OP did you meet utilization last year they can get you that way too
