Laid off and tired of interviewing for jobs I’d rather swallow glass than actually be hired for. Going to take the $$$ I saved for my first home and travel instead of using it for rent.

Solo female travel tips or any travel tips welcome. ☺️ and thanks SC1. ❤️ I figure I can work for the rest of my life. I’d rather spend my money on an adventure than wasting it on fretting around refreshing my email and being anxious.

I like ML1’s idea. Travel someplace exotic. Go teach English in another country. Build an orphanage. Eat. Pray. Love. And sleep with hot surfers

Travel to SEA! Do the whole Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam thing. Lots to see and experience. Good luck and safe travels!

Copywriter 1: I’ve been laid off for two months now. I didn’t arrive at the decision right away. If it happens to you—and I really hope it doesn’t, being laid off BLOWS—don’t rush into a decision, do what’s right for you. ❤️

I traveled south America for 3 months. Best thing I could have done.

Look for experiences and travel from there. It puts you with a trustworthy group as a single female traveling alone and you build relationships with some of the most inspiring people

ML1 and Senior Content Producer 1: SEA is my top choice due to the difference in perspective I hope it will bring me and the budget friendliness. This totally is my Eat, Pray, Love moment. 😉☺️

🤘 You’re my hero, OP. Safe travels!

Good for you. My company has been laying people off and i often wonder if i have It in me to travel for a few months should It happen.

@OP: curious, how’d you work everything with your apartment, living situation, etc.? Prob my biggest fear is not being able to afford my apartment with 6+ months left on the lease

Copywriter 1: MINE TOO! I was lucky with some fortuitous timing. My lease ends this month, after which I decided to go month-to-month. I wanted the flexibility as I have been job hunting in other states, and didn’t want to deal with having to explain my no income situation to new landlords. I’m going to end month-to-month and put my stuff in a storage unit; my address will change to a family member’s. Although I was lucky to have the option to go month to month, the flexibility comes with a steep price tag—$500 extra in rent a month! Part of me wishes I had signed a six month lease and attempted to sublet instead. That’s always an option so you don’t get stuck with a big bill.

I’ve been interviewing and I’m running out of excuses for being out of the office randomly and without much notice. I’ve used doctor’s appointment, dentist, “personal reasons” and an emergency appliance issue. Any others people have used? I don’t have kids, so none of those will work. Had an interview scheduled for Tuesday just now.
