This leads me to continue to believe law is a dumb profession. You come in knowing nothing and then you learn something and people are still asking you about transcripts.
Most larger firms use GPA, as do many other companies in several professions, to filter candidates. It is not a negative inward reflection on you but can be a barrier unless you have contacts. Develop your network along with focusing on your other strengths. I ran into one opportunity with a firm years ago and they stated that because of my law school ranking, they were going to pass. Now I work in house and that firm same approached me to process all of my IP business, which is sizable. You can guess they didn’t get the opportunity. Karma baby...
This happens more than you think (karma).
I’ve been told that after a while, many firms ask for transcripts as a technicality. Did you go to a top 20 law school? I think the big law firm name on your resume coupled with a strong cover letter and a lot of effort will continue to open doors for you. Good luck!
No, more like top 100. But well known school with a good reputation locally. Although your advice won’t hold the same vigor it still has its truth. Thank you.
I’ve been curious about this scenario as well, so I’m leaving a comment for notifications. But from my limited perspective, grades become less important as rank of school increases (obviously), but also because alumni of the same school are more willing to help each other (and positive correlation between big law lawyers and top schools)

OP, how long have you been practicing?
Chief
That’s not long enough for grades to be totally disregarded. Did you coast after getting in with your big firm?
What year are you? When are you technically off website etc?
1 year. Probably will be taken off in another week or two.
They laid you off as a first year?
Yes.
If you have the time to apply, you should try instead of asking whether you’d be considered. Be confident in yourself and abilities.
