Got an offer from Amazon but didn't get selected on H1-B. Currently on L1-B with another company. What can I do now? I can't really go to another country because my wife is employed here.
1. Is there a way for me to retain the offer until the next H1-B lottery?
2. My offer from Amazon was 50% higher than what I make now. Can I ask my current employer to match it?
it's ending 😭

Y’all marching this weekend?
You’re not worthless and you got this. I was there once and I was even inexperienced at the time and still found my way. Persistence overcomes resistance. Something will fall, and just remember these “declines” or “delays” are probably for a reason when you look back in life. Just make sure you’re not asking for some absurd salary above market value and something will come
Your way
The past is not predictive. Statistically, you’re just that much closer to a yes.
You can reapply for unemployment benefits when they run out. Keep grinding on the search. You'll get something soon.
Being laid off and then trying to find jobs is really hard. It’s like a sustained period of rejection even if it’s not reflective of your worth. Try to be generally forgiving of yourself. It’s okay to be bummed. It’s okay to have bad days. The more you put pressure on yourself the harder it is. Try to do things that remind you of your worth outside of the job. Put time into hobbies. Spend time with friends and family. Volunteer! The world and your worth is really so much bigger than work, but you have to try really hard to remind yourself of this when you’re out of a job.
This is also the hardest part of the unemployment tunnel. In the beginning there’s some novelty to it and you’re not that far away from what was once your normal. But then you get farther and farther from it and you start to lose your orientation. You’re in the middle of the tunnel and it’s pitch black and you start to question whether you’re ever going to get out. You start to wonder if you’re even going toward the exit. Trying to remain calm in total darkness is hard but you just have to remind yourself to put one foot in front of the other, and eventually you’ll get out. Hang in there, I know it’s tough.
I interviewed at a place before Thanksgiving. Got ghosted around the holidays and then just received a call 3 weeks ago asking if I still wanted it. I start on Monday. You never know what's going on on the other side. You just keep applying to things that you're even remotely qualified for and reach out to everyone you know that could help you. A lot of people don't mind referring someone bc there's a bonus tied to it, and that's the best way to jump the line.
I think you need to cast a wider net. Find positions in other industries where your skills can translate (entertainment, media, tech). You will have fresh insight and a new prospective which would make you more appealing.
It'll be easier to move between different industries and when you do decide to make lateral moves you'll have more opportunities. Don't just look within advertising.
I’ve been in a similar situation since Dec. Now worried about COVID hitting recruitment. Already hearing about hire freezes. It’ll take 3 months for the worst to subside and then hopefully we’re not in recession. Have widened the net, stepped up the networking, and lowered my salary expectation. 😞
Don’t give up, it’ll pass. Sound like cliches but its cliche for a reason: it’s true.
Hang in there. There are still a lot of open positions across agencies. Have you looked into GroupM? https://jobs.jobvite.com/groupm-na/
