I got fired after 1 year 8 months at my first job.
At my second job, I made 18 spots in 5 months.
You’ll bounce back!
TBH getting fired lit a spark in me for that run.
I was told I “probably wasn’t meant for the creative field” and I set out to prove those damn MFers wrong.
Happens to everyone. Stay positive
Hello. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years. I’ve been laid off twice. Once was in 2001 and the other was last week. If this is something you love doing, keep doing it. Use Fishbowl, use LinkedIn, use you contacts you’ve gained over your career. Good luck. You’re not alone.
Rite of passage in this industry. I’ve been laid off before. A friend of mine got laid off five times!
5xer 🙋🏻♂️
I’ve been three times. First time I was overjoyed. Second? I cried. Uncontrollably. Third? I was trying to leave anyway, so it just spurred along what I was already doing.
It generally sucks tho. Obviously. But you just gotta pound the pavement. Bootstraps and all that. Roll with the punches. Dig deep. Tomorrow is another day. Never let ‘em see you sweat. Pick a cliche and motor on.
Same here. Been laid off twice. OP definitely look into freelance.
got laid off twice in a two year span, relocated across country for both positions. it sucks, I feel ya.
@cw1 no family, just me. probably wouldn't have done the moved if I'd had family
Congratulations!! This is a rite of passage and an important growth experience. Yeah, it sucks. But any creative worth their salt has been laid off at least a couple of times. My first time was just a few months before 9/11. Now THAT sucked. And I still think it was one of the best things to happen to my career. You’ll be fine.

I’m sorry to hear about the lay-off. Lots of good advice on this thread. Having been laid off twice myself, I’ve found it always leads to something better. My suggestion: take some time for yourself.
Hang in there! Don’t listen to the self doubt - it’s a killer. File for unemployment, freshen up your CV. Exercise! Set a new rhythm; resumes, Linked in until lunch, afternoons to yourself, whatever works. Catch up on Netflix, treat yourself on occasion to a cheap bottle of wine. It’s not cancer just unemployment it won’t last forever.
Five years is a good run. Now go somewhere else. Yeesh. I would love a five year gig.
Lynchpin Seth Godin. It works.
I got laid off from a big but mediocre at best agency. Ended up getting hired in less than a month at one of the top ad agencies AND jumped from AD straight to ACD. It’s always for the best. Carry on with confidence, friend.
