Have a set routine which starts about 30 mins before bedtime. For example mine for my little one is 10 min warning that bath time is coming. Then bath with some built in play time and them pjs brush teeth and sing songs while he’s in bed and then off to sleep
We don’t vary much from it and has worked pretty well
My son did this at exactly on his second birthday.
We tried the toddler bed but it didn't work. First we did sleep sack backwards + okay to wake clock (turns green when it's morning wake up time and told him not to climb out until morning time), then he figured out how to climb out while wearing the sleep sack so we got these naughty monkey pajamas on Etsy (overpriced basically they sew a strip of cloth between the legs of Carter's pajamas so your child can't kick their leg over), then we eventually got a crib tent, which has been working fine.
OP - Good luck! I know some kids do well with the toddler bed transition at that age but we didn't make any progress and missed our uninterrupted sleep ;) keeping him in the crib longer helped! We'll probably try the toddler bed closer to age 3.
C1 - that’s super interesting! I’d never thought about ways to keep her from climbing over - thanks! A while back we tried sleeping without a crib for two nights while traveling and it was miserable...she doesn’t stay in bed without crib rails. 🙄
My kid got his nightlight turned off if he did not stay in bed. Took two times but it worked
