Lately I feel a lot of resentment toward my boss (he is the sole partner of our small firm). He seems to have absolutely no concept of anyone else’s time but his. For example, at 12:30 AM Friday he sent an email with Zoom invite for a meeting at 8:15 AM Friday! It is such a rude thing! 1) what if I didn’t check emails before 8:15? 2) what if I was going to the gym and wouldn’t even be done until 8:20 (I usually go to a 7:20 class)? I am so tempted to no appear for it today and see…

Feeling like this as well but with deadlines. All files basically come through me for review before they go to my boss for approval. He waits until the last possible second to review and want me to make a bunch of changes when I’ve given him WEEKS to do it. He basically works part time while the rest of us work much more than that. I don’t work well in a rush and clearly he does. It’s very frustrating. It’s hard to change someone when they’ve been doing it one way for so long.

I think all partners are like this, meaning slightly (or entirely) sadistic. They think nothing of loading your weekend or a holiday with work either. My managing partner actually called me on a religious holiday when I told him I was spending time with family and was irritated that I didn't whip out my laptop then and there.

I have a similar feeling right now, but it doesn’t really deal with time. It’s the particulars of my boss. I’m a paralegal and help out with both the big man and the partner. Well the partner is so ridiculous. (Maybe it’s just me)
I’m eccentric and have little things at my desk that represent me. I have a nice tray with my pens and supplies including a rainbow glitter unicorn pen.
I was asked yesterday to put away some of my items, like the rainbow unicorn pen, stating it’s a place of business and kinda serious.
Really?

like

I doubt clients care if you're using a glittery rainbow unicorn pen as long as the work gets done and the work product is good.

Run. I've worked with a few people like that and you can try to address it , (boss, I don't check emails before X time) but be prepared for middle of the night texts and calls or just find another job. If this is how he works it's unlikely he'll change now.
I had a coworker once who would call my office phone. If I didn't answer he'd immediately call my cell. And if I didn't answer that, he'd call the people in the offices next to me to ask why I wasn't answering his call. It was NEVER an emergency. I had some words with him and thankfully it stopped.

like

When that happens to me, I either ignore or decline. If questioned about it, I'm honest in saying I wasn't provided enough notice and already had something scheduled on my calendar during that time frame. Unfortunately, I think C1 is right - if this is how he operates, it's unlikely he's going to change any time soon. You'll either have to learn to live with it, or start looking for another job.

like

Tsk. He's such a headache. Are you considering switching firms?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?
