Lately I’ve been feeling like I don’t actually have ADHD and that I’m just addicted to Adderall..... but when I don’t take medication i have little to no motivation to do work. Anyone else dealt with this before?

I’m a recovering Vyvanse addict and I took my 60mg as prescribed for years. I prefer to say addict rather than heavily dependent. These drugs are highly addictive and nothing to mess around with. They are so powerful that they change who we are and our personalities. I wish I never tried it because it changed who I was and now I’m on a difficult journey of finding my way back to the real me. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do moving forward. I know how much Adderall can impact one’s life and hope you can figure out the right path for you.

Likewise KPMG1 a lot of what you said resonated. I also wish I never went on them. ... and trust, you will find yourself again, it may not occur in the timeframe you want, but keep moving forward, you got this! 🌞

Do you also feel a similar negative impact with your non-work life when you’re unmedicated? If so, you probably do have ADHD. For example, when I don’t take my meds I can’t focus on my hobbies or fun things I enjoy, like video games.

like

For some things yes! Like I’m still able to binge watch netflix medicated or not but I’m constantly forgetting things when I run errands. I told a psychiatrist that I can’t focus on reading or learning new skills and she said that it’s depression, not ADD. so I went to another psychiatrist that did prescribe me Adderall

If you drink coffee everyday and don’t drink coffee one day then you’ll be tired. If you take something everyday that makes you focus and then don’t take it, then you’ll lose that focus.

Try taking a few weeks off from adderall and see if the focus comes back.

I took 2 weeks off medication, 1st week i was on vaca so i was fine but the 2nd week i worked and i could barely get myself to work. but thank you for the advice :)

like

Try not taking it on the weekends and then shrinking your dosage see how you feel after a month or two.

i don’t take it on the weekends or when im on vaca! i normally take 20 mg XR, never tried more than that and not interested in it upping my dose. I recently tried taking 10 mg and 15 mg after a 2 week break but the lower doses were still not cutting it

Same. But I don’t think I’m addicted to the actual medication, just the security it gives me. Then again I was most likely born with crack in my system and once had a doctor tell me I would probably have to take the medication my whole life. It has helped me achieve success but also had a negative effect with side effects as well. If I didn’t take the medication I would literally be setting myself up for failure, end up at the mall when I should be working or at the park with the dog..just the reality I have to face.

Found myself in a conversation with the branch manager (white male pushing thru his late 60's) about holiday decorations. I just told him how I've been directed by corporate to keep the winter holiday decorations as non denominational and he nearly exploded. Starts saying how Christmas is the "American Way" and "nobody is going to take MY Christmas" and "this is MY BRANCH, I will decorate for CHRISTMAS" and so much more. I'm just flabbergasted, frustrated but not surprised.

How do you all manage exercise and meds? I take vyvanse and have a peloton, but am kinda scared of the heart rate increase combination. I find the vyvanse takes about 2h to kick in and so I try to take it by 6am otherwise I’m dealing with the “hitting me” feeling when at work (which has resulted in some really embarrassing situations). In the evenings, I’m so hungry that a workout is harder to do plus you never know when the work day will end!
