Lately I’ve been feeling pay by bracket policy is very counter productive. When I came from my prev company, I had salary at the higher bracket due to market correction and novartis offer coinciding. Now after a couple of years, I see that people who were hired before or after me on a lower package have somewhat similar package as me cause of the pay brackets despite me performing better. Should I talk to my manager explaining my predicament? Or should I simply search for another job?

Even right now they're hiring people in THE CONEXTs insights team from genpact by offering package of 28 lpa to a person who's package is 17lpa right now. I have no idea about what calculations does HR do. And once this person enters Nvs they'll be given low single digit hikes as they'll be at top end of spectrum and no promotions happen before two years in a role.

Single digit hikes are the norm here. You can't complaint as nothing will happen. Your manager will simply blame top driven policies for that. Also, Novartis has not retention policy, so if you decide to leave, they'll accompany you to the door and wish you all the best. Last year's excuse was covid, this year's excuse will be something else. I had 3/3 rating which is the highest but if i show you my compensation hike and bonus, it'll be a whole different story. Nvs offers little incentive for self motivated high performers.

Bottom line is, they screwed up in previous years by hiring people at crazy packages and giving hikes, now this is all clean up going on to bring their house in order. So people who are joining now and have joined in last 2-3 years, Will continue to suffer

Plus pay brackets make me feel like irrespective of whatever extra initiatives I take up, I’ll end up with a measly 5% increment. I even got a 4% promotion hike which has messed up my whole persona of being self motivated person. I really think I deserve more but I fear that this cycle too the hikes will be low for me cause I am already at the upper end of the bracket. It’s like my previous company paying me more is being negatively compensated for here at novartis.

And when pay or hike related discussions happen, the leaders follow a set template which goes something like this- "Difficult year blah blah..job security & flexibility blah blah..dont look at money only blah blah..learning opportunity blah blah..next year everything will be fine"

I’ve seen analysts being hired at 13lpa +-4k. I am a senior analyst and I am paid less than that.

When I was hired, I had best package in the industry and now despite top ratings each cycle I get measly 4-6% hikes. I mean there are companies who give more hike in a year than what I’ve got in 3 cumulative years and hence the frustration
