Nearly impossible to jump to PE. There are very little transferable skills, even for an Ops role, let alone an investment role. If PE is what you want, best bet is to jump to MM IB, then BB IB, then trying for a lower middle market PE shop. That is your best bet, but it will be extremely hard to even get into IB at this point due to the macroeconomic environment.
If you go Corp Dev now, your PE options are basically nil because reps are what matters and in corp dev you don't get nearly the number of reps a banker gets.
Thanks EY2 and EY3. I actually work in the London FDD practice and so far all our scopes in terms of projections were to explain the bases and assumptions management applied and provide a Deloitte view where we say how it compares to history and broader factors/assumptions. But haven't seen anything in scopes where we actually prep the models. To be fair, most FDD scopes we do include diligencing the projections though.

It’s funny, my best friend was in IB and PE now and he still finds his life unrewarding most PE funds have a 2 year up and out policy and you go for a top MBA.
The only reason for him is money.
I jumped from FDD directly to PE deal team in a tier 1 city in the US. Even interviewed for PE ops role, but didn’t go through w/ it. It’s pretty difficult but not impossible
Just got really lucky and was prepared. The recruiter that reached out about the PE ops role came back to me with the deal team role for a fund that was newer and looking to grow. I was already interviewing for IB so I was well prepared and just had to slightly tweak my story on why PE and study up on LBOs, which are very similar to DCFs. The take home modeling exam was what got me the job I think, but I have a lot of friends in PE and they helped me w/ it

Ahh yes, says the guy with a KPMG tag...
Oh here comes the "I just haven't updated it on fishbowl" excuse.
Even if it's true chances are you made the move during late 2020 or 2021. It was next to impossible before COVID and will remain that way afterwards largely due to the broader macroeconomic environment.
Currently at KPMG looking to do it likely in the next two years or so. There’s hope yet haha

Just do it. Yolo! Whats the worst you have to look for a job back in FDD?

I think the more important question is why you’re unhappy with the present work you do. Not sure if PE/IB will make you happier without knowing why you want to make the switch from FDD.

What you're interested in is middle office valuation roles at a Bank, hedge funds, or equity research (mainly just long-form investment writing)
