Lateral CO 2020 Labor & Employment associate here. I’ve never been through a review as an attorney. Are there any spreadsheets or lists that you keep up with throughout the year to help make review time easier? Additionally, are there any lists/spreadsheets that you keep update for practice/case management purposes? My team is made up of really senior partners and extremely junior associates. There is not much experience to pull from the associates. Thanks I’m advice for all advice!

I’ve heard people say that it’s helpful to keep a Word document throughout the year and update it with your major work as you go so you’ll remember at review time. I’ve personally never done this because I’m lazy, but you can also usually get a good end of year refresher by reviewing your time entries, if that is helpful at all.

Coming out of UG, I accepted my first job b/c I thought I had to based on status of other interviews. I ended up quitting after 8 weeks in favor of an opportunity I perceived to be better, but took longer to get. 7 months into the new gig, I am NOT happy. Considering this is technically my second job out of school, how long should I stick around before trying to leave without looking like a total scumbag opportunist?

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.

I love international tax (in core) and don’t mind compliance at all but it’s been nearly 100% of what I do. Any ways of balancing out with more structuring/planning?

Some background: there’s only 3 of us IT locally and with the departure of our SM, the little structuring/planning work I do see will probably dry up when they leave. Do I network with other bigger offices to pick up that kind of work?

How would you ask to transfer to another office within your firm?

I lateraled from one firm in city A to another firm city B. During the interview process, I made a big deal about how I badly I wanted to be in B, despite only being barred in A. They hired me, paid for my bar courses, the works.

Now I find myself in a position where I need to leave B due to personal issues. Thinking of going to DCso I can just waive in.

My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.
